Baby & toddler sharing room..HELP!!

Ask:
Today is the first day we will have our 2 yr old in her big girl (full size) bed, and the crib is in the same room for our 10 month old. If you have had children sharing a room, how do you get them to sleep? Today's nap didn't go so well. My baby stood in the crib crying while my toddler walked around the room. I eventually gave in and put the baby in the pack& play in our livingroom, my toddler is still walking around, playing toys and reading books in her room (with a baby gate on the door---thanks for that tip!!!)

Any help and/or advise you have would be greatly appreciated!!!

Is this the first time for the big girl bed AND sharing the room? My two youngest share a room. They are 16 months apart..and started sharing a room when one was 15 months, the other 2 1/2. They LOVE it. Funny enough, too, before they got in the same room, both had been in cribs..and we moved the oldest one to a toddler bed, too. The biggest thing I can say is to talk to the toddler. Put the baby down first so that she is asleep..and remind the older child not to wake the baby. Maybe even a suprise jar is in order for when she is a big girl, stays in the bed, and lets the baby sleep?? We did it...with candycorn of all things!! Mine have been in a room together for almost 2 years. It is precious listening to them on the monitor sometimes, and even when one does go on to sleep, they have learned to just sleep through the other one still yakking!! :P

my 2 youngest share a room and have since the baby was 6 weeks old. They are 22 months apart. I never had my older 2 sharing rooms until they got alittle older.
First off, it will take some time so try to not get discouraged. Like the above poster said- try and have one asleep when you put the other one down. I think it is easier for naps to put the baby down first- since the older one may or may not want to nap. My 2 1/2 yr old no longer naps. They both go down fairly easy at night- though it is better if the older one is asleep when I put the baby in. If not the older one gets out of bed and makes noises and wakes the baby up. So I then take the baby out and get the older one to sleep- It will be way easier when the are older and you can talk/somewhat reason with them to go to sleep.
This is new for them- really just the your older girl- so once she knows to stay quiet and not wake the baby it will get easier also- Good luck

Thanks for your tips! Today is the first day of toddler big girl bed, but the real problem is that my baby is not used to sleeping in a crib, unless she is already asleep when I put her in it. Agh...my own fault, and I am trying to break that habit. The baby will fall asleep is I let her cry (which kills me by the way!)

UPDATE!!! I just peaked into their room, my toddler is on her bed, snuggled next to her new bunny, FAST ASLEEP!!!

I will try to put my baby down first, then my toddler tonight, Em, my toddler knows to be quite when Ash is sleeping!

Thanks again for all of your advice!
