Over Spring Break our new neighbor moved in next door and I have been trying to meet them. (We were told it was a Major in the AF and his wife who was a nurse.) Well, they were never home.
Tonight I see lights on so I took the opportunity to go and introduce myself. Turns out it is a single woman who is a Major and a nurse in the Air Force. She just found out two hours before this that she is being sent to Afghanistan for four months. She has not finished moving her stuff from her apartment into the house.
I told her my dh and I would help her anyway we could. She leaves in two weeks and has two cats. She said a friend is going to house/cat sit for the four months, but she was really down and stressed.
I just felt so bad for her. Even those that don't have families still stress about deployments.

Poor thing. That does sound stressful to get sent to afghanistan before she even gets settled in from her last move. Hopefully it will help her to know she has neighbors keeping an eye on things for her.
