Lilac Bush ???

Ask:
I received a lilac bush for my b-day, but there were no planting instructions. Where should I put it? Full sun/shade? Damp soil, well drained soil?
Answer:

We live in Ohio and our lilac bushes love full sun, but we do have one that is in some shade and it does fine as well, although it doesn't grow as fast as the ones in the sun. Check online or at a local nursery for soil specifics for your area, our soil is well drained.
Answer:

Oh also...I prune our lilacs almost every year because I like them short and bushy as opposed to tall and leggy, but it depends on the variety you have as to how they grow. If you do prune, try to prune immediately after they flower because they make next years flower buds during the summer, so if you prune in the fall, you're cutting off next years flowers. Does that make sense?!
