Baby slings or baby bjorn things?

Ask:
What do you think about these? I ask because I've never had personal experience with one nor do I know anyone who uses one.

I've always just seen the infants in carseats. We have one of the car seats that snap into the stroller and I've only been around people who use the infant car seat. You just pop it out of the base in the car and into the stroller or shopping cart.

I know they are heavy but when you get in a store they go on the shopping cart so you don't have to hold them. But you are holding them the entire time if they are in a sling. But I guess it wouldn't be so bad when they are tiny, but wouldn't they get heavy?

Anyway I'm just confused and looking for advice.
Answer:

We have a Baby Bjorn and we love it! Ds went in for the first time when he was only 2 weeks old - and dh was the one to wear it! He loved being so close to his daddy while dh was preparing dinner or just walking around. I used it around the house too until he was about 10 weeks old - by then he was getting too heavy to wear all the time. It was great for the time when he needed to be close to us but we also wanted to get things done.

I keep it in the car now and when we are just popping into a shop, I put him in the Baby Bjorn instead of leaving him in the carseat. I like it because: 1) it gets him in a different position and he can look around (he is now 6 months and faces out and can smile at everyone), 2) it keeps my hands free, and 3) it is a good workout!

I hear that some babies don't like them and I think it just depends on your baby. Some people swear by the slings, but you can't use them once babies get bigger - or I wouldn't know how, anyway. We're looking forward to upgrading to the backpacks so we can go on long walks that way (of course, dh will have to carry him!!!)

I have one, not the Baby Bjorn, but similar, I think ours is the Snugli. We used it a couple of times, and that was it, when the baby was smaller. She was always in her swing as an infant while we were at home.

For the most part we have always used the stroller. We didn't use the infant car seat either, another reason we always have the stroller with us. Usually we were always together, so my dh would push the stroller and I would push the shopping cart if we were in a store. I am sure I am the minority though....most people love those sling things and use them all the time.

I guess it comes down to a personal preference and how many baby items you want to own.
Answer:

i got the baby bjorn when my first son was an infant and i hated it now with my third i got a cheaper one that blessedwith6 told me about it was and infintino 6 in 1 and it was 29.99 i love this one it has tons more functions(front facing, forward facing, back pack, can use in shopping cart to hold baby upright when they get older, you can unsnap them and put them in the carseat with it on if they are alseep) just so many more functions. but i found it is kind of a personal thing we use ours at school functions(so we don't have to drag around the car seat) and if dd is having a day where she just wants to be held this way i can still get things done. for shopping we still use the carseat and stroller combo dd is just 6 months and not ready to sit up the entire time yet...

as for the sling i have never used my friend used one with her first daughter and was always complaining about her back but i also think that would depend on if you have a weeker back or not i gave her the same carrier i have and she loves it also with her 2nd.

I have an infantano sling and never liked it. It just seemed uncomfortable for the baby (and now it has been recalled for some part on it).

I also have one where the baby and look out. I like this one. Now I also have a Wrap N Wear sling from ebay where you can use one piece of fabric to hold your baby in different positions. I have fallen in love with this one and would never look back. You do have to do a little more learning to use it, but it comes with a DVD to help you.
