Start stock piling now to save money

Ask:
The cost ethanol is going to have on economy has been talked about on another section but it was on the news acouple nights ago. Corn is in alot of food products so if you don't have a pantry start one. The cost of corn is going up. Consequently milk prices are going to go up even more because it's more expensive to feed the dairy cows. Meat prices are also to go up. If you have a freezer buy and freeze ground beef when it's on sale.

Then because farmers are going to grow more corn there will be less wheat. In turn the price of bread will be going up.

Gas prices are not the only place we are going to feel it. Law of Supply and Demand feels like it's kicking me in the checkbook. I don't know where else I can cut back.
Answer:

UGH! I think I'm going to buy a farm raise and grow my own and as my grandfather said once, buy a pregnant cow and ride her to town. Then She can have the baby and I will ride it back home.
Answer:

I watched this on the news, too. Some places are already starting to see milk prices go up. One farmer that they interviewed said that the corn he bought last year was something like $800 (I don't know how much that bought), but the same quantity this year was over $1000! I agree that we need better fuel and more alternatives, but this is going to make everything more pricey. Southern Belle Mommie, DH and I have actually talked for about a year now about buying some land and growing/raising most of our food. I've been thinking that if we want corn on the cob, this year, we are going to have to plant some in the garden or pay out the ying yang later! Time to go out and buy a hand mill to grind our own flour that we grow, eh? Sneak a goat in our back yard? Ya think the neighbors 50 feet from us will notice?
Answer:

Wow crazyness!!!
Answer:

I get corn free from dh's great uncle. before we only took a small amount, guess I will take anything and start freezing.

Answer:

Sadly this is true. We are in IL and the few farmers that planted wheat may have lost it this year in our area. The wheat was in full head and the late frost hit it. They are worried. Our alfalfa field was frosted and we are going to loose first cutting which amounts to about $1800.
Answer:

Our grocery store runs a special on milk about every 4 weeks on 1/2 gallons of milk for 99 cents. I buy as much as I can since milk is now over $3 a gallon. Yikes!
Answer:

Thanks for the heads-up!! I am a stock-piler by nature but I've been trying to not do too much. I think I will do it again for awhile. Thanks!!
Answer:

i'm not normally a stock piler but i have already noticed a diffrence in prices. dh is working 72 hours this week everything over 40 hrs paid at double time so i jacked up our deductions for the next 3 weeks so the extra we are gonna stock up on some of the staples like tp p towels and some boxed and frozen items to help get us ahead for awhile. plus gas is already up to 2.69 in my town so by summer it will probably be in the 3 dollar ranges so we will be cramming into the saturn to run our errands.
Answer:

gas in our town hit $2.84 yesterday... who knows how high it will go...
