Helpfull hints on homemade babywipes anyone?

Ask:
I have finally used up all my BJ's supply of wipes. I am thinking of making my own. Is it really cheaper? How do you store them? Do they mold? Any input is appreciated.

I made my own when my kdis were little. I liked them better because there was no alcohol in them and when my kids butts got a little rash, these wouldn't burn like ordinary wipes. Plus, you could put Mylanta in them adn it cured diaper rash!

Yes it is much cheaper, I am going to start back up in a little while with making my own wipes. With DS2 it did give him a rash and that was the only reason I stopped making them. I stored mine in a round tubberware container and it never got moldy, of course I had 2 kids I was using them on. It doesn't hurt to try for a bit, because it hardly costs much. you could use a tubberware that you already own and just buy the good papertowels and cut them in half. All you have to add to it is a bit of water, baby oil (or lotion,.. I forgot) and baby soap. It actually smells better than the huggies or pampers IMO. Let me know if you need a recipe.

i didn't know about the Mylanta, I'll have to remember that.

I used to do this, but I cut my paper towel rolls into thirds and used my empty wipes containers.

If you use the Search Funtion and type in "baby wipes" you can then go under the thread "Home Made Cleaning Products" and then go to page 4, Post #34, where Patchwrk gave a recipe. (Using the search function also highlights in red all the search words you typed in for easier scanning of the posts.) In the last post on this thread I suggested cutting a roll of Viva paper towels in half (or in thirds, as someone else suggested) if you're not going to need that many all at once.

Happy Wipey Making!!!

Thanks I'm getting a little excited about this now. Won't hurt to try right!

I actually cloth wipes which is even cheaper, IMO. I use Gerber baby washclothes that you can get like 4 for a dollar. If you sew you can buy terry or flannel at the fabric store, cut into squares, and sew the edges. I use a wipe warmer with just plain water and put the washclothes in there. It never gets moldy or stinky but I still change the water every 2-3 days or so. We use cloth diapers too so it's easy to just toss them in the diaper pail to be washed. If you don't use cloth you could just keep a small trash can near your changing area to put them in and wash with your towels. Just run a rinse cycle first.
