Window Locks

Ask:
DS is autistic, if someone raises their voice or he is just upset he will often go to his room and go out the window. I live in low incomine housing and they just put new windows in so they wont let me screw in any type of new locks or put a nail in the frame to stop him from opening it. Anyone have any ideas?

Answer:

try getting a tension rod (to hang curtains) and just turn it vertical and place it in the window (on top of the bottom window, holding the window down).

How big is the window.....could you use a tension baby gate in the window opening (when you need the window open and the above idea cannot be used)

I believe that the Americans with Disabilities Act would come into effect here and the landlord would have to make the window safe so your son (so he could not get out). Since it is a safety issue....might be hard to prove, but well worth a try!!!!!
Answer:

When my kids were little, we used that plastic type lattace on their windows. It is brittle and breakes easily so a fireman would have no trouble breaking it if they needed to get in, but the kids wouldn't be abled to do. I have taken it off now that they are older, but it was pretty cheap and looked kind of cute actually, they have a garden type theme to their room.
Answer:

I put the baby gate in front of our windows. My dd climbed out of her window when we first moved in so the baby gate went up right away. It is almost as high as the window and she cant get it off yet.
