Ask:
If I had been thinking at the time and realized that, yes- stainless steel does have to be polished, I would NEVER have let it in my kitchen. What is the appeal? Magnets won't stick to it, so art work has to be taped on the fridge, and then it has to be polished- not a quick swipe with vinegar and water, either. My dishwasher must have some kind of stainless steel disease because I have to polish it every 3-4 days to keep it looking presentable, not all streaky. Stainless steel is like the high heels of the kitchen- fashionable but a killer. Ugh.
And garbage disposals? Things FALL IN. You have to stick your hand into its creepy pit to pull out your mangled 3/4 tsp spoon. You have to keep it clean so it doesn't get smelly- I don't have time to stand around grinding up ice cubes or orange peels. Or worse- wonder:can this go in the disposal? only to find out the hard way that no, celery is not a good idea for it. Double Ugh.

Ha! I can start my own personal rant about my garage door opener right now. Just paid almost $200 to have the springs in the roll-up door replaced and the whole door tuned-up. It still isn't working right! The guy is coming out again tomorrow. This garage door has been my bane for almost a year now. When the springs broke I finally bit the bullet and called the service guy. Now, even he isn't fixing it correctly.
I am old enough to remember the day when garage door openers were not even invented much less commonplace. Now I'm back to putting the garage door up and down manually - gee, just like the old days.
The funny thing is, the day the springs broke, my car was luckily out of the garage. Of course I couldn't lift the garage door to put my car into the garage so I had to park on the driveway. I forgot I was parked out there until DD and I were racing to get her to school. Oops! It had rained the night before, then froze. I had to sit on the side of the road for a few minutes just to let the defroster work long enough so I could see. DD got into her carseat and complained that it was brrrrrrr cold! I laughed. Yeah, in the old days (and many places on the east coast) people didn't have garages so every winter morning is cold like that. Even earlier in history, kids didn't get the luxury of being driven to school in a heated, enclosed space. The seat of the carriage was always cold - if you were lucky enough to even have a carriage.

Yay! I don't have any stainless steel, garbage disposal or a grage door opener!!!!!
Answer:
I adore my stainless steel sink and I wouldn't have anything else. I've never been a fan of stainless steel appliances, though. I did have a stainless steel stove top at one time. When it got stained, we would just take an orbital sander to the surface - the whole surface.
I have NEVER likes the 'fingerprint - free' paint jobs on refrigerators. Is that a marketing ploy or what? They put that textured surface on refrigerators because it is easier to apply and shows fewer flaws in the paint job. The texturing gives more places for dirt and grime to hide. Fingerprint-free my arse!
Answer:
I like my garbage disposal...I never have any problems with stuff going down the drain that doesn't belong there - I think I would if my kids were younger and my DH was not so good with cleaning up after himself.
I am not crazy about the stainless steel appliances either...it would drive me nuts trying to keep them print free.
I hate my stainless steel sink. Everytime it gets wet or dirty it looks awful. Maybe if it were new it wouldn't look so bad. My next sink will be porcelin and hopefully undermount.
Answer:
Hmmmm, I am a cleaning fanatic and outside of the regular wiping down of my all stainless steel appliances, I haven't had any problems. I guess my appeal is that they look great in my kitchen! I must have the ones that don't show fingerprints, because ours don't
I love my garbage disposal too, but it makes me feel guilty because I should be composting. Our composter is filled to the brim and with winter and all just isn't breaking down. Dh suggested I put kitchen composting on hold until the warmer weather.
Answer:
My last sink was stainless and if I replace this porcelain one we have now, I'm getting stainless again. This one stains. Yuck!
