Ask:
My DS recently turned 3 and is not potty trained...not even a little bit. Actually, until another Mom said "he's not trained?"...it hadn't even occured to me that is was odd. My other 2 boys were trained at 16 months( I know...crazy early, but he was cloth diapered and just said "no more diapers") and 2 1/2. My DS3 just doesn't seem mature enough. Is it wrong to just wait until summer and give him extra time and the convenience of looser/less clothing to take up and down? At this point he still has trouble get his clothes off. Certainly he is not fast enough at it to make it to the toilet.
Thought?
Answer:
My oldest was over three, he was probably close to 4. I know people thought I was crazy for not trying before. He showed no interest and also had difficulty with his clothes. It was just not his thing. But when his time came he was trained in a weekend.
My 2 year old is really interested and is trying. We are no where close, but I hope by this summer he will be trained.
I think they are all different.

A friend once asked me..."Do you know any capable 16 year olds that are still peeing their pants?" I told her no and she told me not to worry when my first dd wasn't potty trained at age 3. There's such a stigma surrounding potty training. As if all kids are created equal and should be potty trained by a specific age, or you're labeled a bad mom. It's not odd at all! You're doing just fine, and if you feel he's not quite ready yet, then wait until summer! My first DD was probably "fully" potty trained by 3.5/4. I say this because she had a LOT of accidents. Our second child got up and used that potty around age 2. Just one day threw off her diaper and that was the end of that. Some kids speak early, others later. Some read early, others later. Some are potty trained early, others later. Don't allow that comment to make you feel like something's off with his potty schedule. Some Moms are very competitive with the potty training thing. It just cracks me up.
Answer:
Okay Cameron just turned 3 in Feb and he will NOT train! He is very aware of when he pees, but its trickey to get him on the potty. So frustrating!! He HAS to be trained by Sept to go to Preschool.
But I'm starting to see the signs now. If he pees, he'll grab himself or squeeze his legs together. If he poops, he runs and hides for a minute. If he is naked, I have NO problem getting him on the pot, he tells me AFTER he's already gone. But when dressed, and in pull ups, forget it!
Answer:
Carson was adamant that he had no interest in training. He was 3 1/2 before he finally got 'er done. Don't worry. IT'll happen.
Answer:
DS will be 4 in June and we really just got him potty trained a month or two ago. Almost had him trained last year but he back stepped and stopped showing any interest in it (actually had to keep him out of Preschool because of it). Then, he decided he was done on his own and from there kind of trained himself (he would need to be reminded ocassionally but for the most part did it on his own). I wouldn't worry about it. It'll happen when he's ready.
Answer:
We really didn't start with Quentin until after he was 3 (probably closer to 3 1/2).
Answer:
I see nothing wrong with you waiting until summer, its much easier! My oldest ds turned 3 in April and I didnt even start until July he trained within a couple of weeks.
Answer:
