Dr. appt -- don't be afraid to ask questions

Ask:
I took Ian in this morning for his 15 month appointment. When we went in the exam room, the nurse said he'd be getting 3 shots (MMR, prevnar & DTaP). I had thought he was only due for one, so I said didn't he have the MMR & maybe one of the others at his 1-year appointment? She said "let me check", and sure enough, it was on the list of ones he'd received (and the Prevnar too), but somehow didn't make into what he was supposed to get for this appointment. The nurse was surprised, and said at least twice how glad she was that I asked because it would not have been good to get those twice in such a short period of time. The moral is never be afraid to speak up if you think a mistake has been made, especially when it concerns your baby's health .
Answer:

That is so true!! I will be asking when I take my DD in for her 15 month check up because she had a reaction to her 12 month shots. The doctor said it was probably from the MMR shot. I didn't think she got that shot and according to the sheet they gave me with what shots she received, it didn't say that either. I want to make sure on her next round of shots she isn't getting the wrong shots.
Answer:

Absolutely! Everyone makes mistakes. No matter how many titles or degrees they have behind their name never be afraid to question anything you feel unsure of.
Answer:

Oh my gosh thats pretty scary. I must admit that I dont pay too much attention the shots my kids are getting. This was a wake up call. I feel pretty bad. lol Bad bad mom!
Answer:

I just went through the same thing with Riley, who is 6. They casually mentioned to me not to leave after his checkup....because he was due a newly required shot. I questioned it..and it turned out it was the chicken pox vaccine booster...BUT Riley had the first chicken pox vaccine and then had CHICKEN POX a year after that. He is immune completely.
