This idea for those who travel with their kids. Younger kids usually have a hard time keeping headphones to stay on their heads. Try and attach a headband with rubberbands to the headphones. The headband will help keep the earphones in place the entire time.

When we go on trips (2hrs. or longer) my dd likes to bring along her Disney Princess DVD player (bought at a pawn shop, mind you!!) and what I've been doing is letting her use my headphones, fitted with a washcloth wrapped around the top of them and then taped. all the way around.
Bet the headband would work just as well, and not look so "goofy"!
