Ask:
SAVE THAT JUNK MAIL!! Shred it and use it in the garden. Add it to your compost bin or place it around trees and shrubs ~ Dig a small trench around the base of the tree or shrub, fill with the mulch, lightly soak and replace the soil ~

Answer:
Great idea! I do that around my tomato plants each year to keep them mulched but never thought of using it all over the garden and yeard!
Also, dry out your coffee grounds from your coffee filter each day and spread that around yor plants- great free fertilizer and most bugs won't crawl over it since it is gritty so it helps keep pests away!

Answer:
Those tomatoes love calcium and potassium. If you don't already compost, save your egg shells (calcium) for a few days/ weeks. When they are dry smash them up and put some in the bottom of each hole when you plant your tomoatoes. Can also toss in a few banana peels (potassium).
Coffee grounds is nitrogen - good stuff as well.
We add shredded newspaper to our compost pile, it's a lot of carbon so make sure you mix it will appropirate greens as well (grass clippings)

I've been thinking about this tip & it concerns me a little bit.
I'm not sure using ALL junk mail is a good idea. We need to be careful when deciding what to introduce into the earth. Most junk mail paper is made using countless toxic chemicals (in the ink and the paper), not to mention the bleach used in a lot of paper. I imagine the perpetrators of most junk mail and bulk mailers use the least Earth-friendly papers/inks--to save on production costs.
The suggestion to use shredded paper as mulch is great--if the paper is not filled with toxins such as bleach or otherwise non-Earth friendly chemicals.
**NOTE: I'm not getting all Al Gore, I'm just thinking maybe using some discrepancy when deciding what shred to use may be a wise decision.
