I am a complete pack rat. I don't mean to be, and I've been working on getting better about it, but it is true. Turns out that I think it is genetic. My mother and father keep everything. They tend to keep different types of stuff...my mother keeps anything that was a family item (even matchboxes from when her parents traveled the world), while my father keeps "this-might-come-in-handy-someday" items.
I'm a mixture of both. I keep things that were my family's or my grandparents'/great-grandparents' things. I also keep things that I think I might need at some point. Like twister-seals. I keep those all the time for when I make wreaths or other projects. Matt is totally NOT a pack rat. He will get rid of just about anything if he thinks it is not useful or needed right now.

I'm a sentimental "can't get rid of it because this person I love gave it to me" pack rat.
I'm a "might need this someday" pack rat.
I'm a "I paid good money for this so I can't just give it away" pack rat.
I'm a "can't decide right now what to do with this so I'll think about it later" pack rat.
And if there's any other kinds...I'm that too

Ditto--to all of it--my cousin in Michigan and I were just saying this same thing this morning--we can't get rid of stuff--and yes ours is very hereditary--I have stuff in boxes I haven't seen in 10 yrs. but I might need it someday--Ok heres a real bad one I save all the batteries--ok so they were going dead in that item we might just need them again in something else--now that is bad!

Yes and it is horrible!!! Dh is just as bad!!! He won't let me get rid of ANYTHING of his. We have computer stuff comming out of our ears!!!
I have been getting better. Just last week, I got rid of a TON of stuff. TO goodwill, the garbage and consignment!!! I am feeling not so overwhelmed by my house anymore!!!

Yes but I have stuck with my New Year's Resolution to improve. So far I've made 10 trips to Salvation Army to donate clothes, toys, shoes, cd's, etc.

Oh this is so me!! I am dealing with it now and just learning how to let go...it' s really not as hard as I thought it would be (I still can't get 'rid' of kids stuff though... I KNOW the do not need every single birthday card that was ever given to them...but what if they wanted it someday?....I need help )
