The checkbook - to balance or not to balance?

Ask:
The checkbook - to balance it or not? I've met lots of people who do and some that feel very strongly that it should be done.

What are your thoughts on whether or not to balance your check book.?

It's just something I've never done but I'm not sure why. Hmmm
Answer:

I don't balance mine per se, never with a statement at least. I usually check my account each day online and keep track of what checks have cleared that way. In the past, I have made too many errors in my account (forget checks, write wrong amount, etc) to wait to the end of the month to balance. If I do it daily I stay on top of it better.

We used to not even do that, but that's when we both worked and we didn't run things as close as we do now.
Answer:

I balance it daily...
Answer:

I also use online banking and check my account every couple of days. My main is concern is that I used my debit card and forgot to write down the transaction.
Answer:

I haven't balanced it in years. I have thought about that I probably should, but now that it has gone this long, it would be really hard, short of opening a new account I don't know how I would do it!
Answer:

I don't balance it ever. I do check my account online every couple days though to make sure everything is correct. I usually keep plenty of money in the account but have free overdraft protection in case it ever gets low so that isn't a concern.
Answer:

I use quicken and download everything from my bank. It's the best system I've ever had!
Answer:

I don't balance with a statement each month. My bank has an automated phone service that I call every other day and get my balance. I also can check on cleared checks, withdrawals and deposits. I find this way easier than doing it monthly.
Answer:

I don't wait on my monthly statement. I check ours online every payday and balance it then (I use Microsoft Money). I can't imagine never balancing my checkbook. How would I know how much money I had in there? I have found several mistakes made by the bank that would have cost me hundreds of dollars this past year (not to mention a few I've made). So, I figure it's worth my time to balance it. Plus, it makes tax time a breeze.
Answer:

I do mine daily to, or everytime I make a transaction. Thank the Lord for the internet, so I can track my checking acct anytime I want, check to see which checks came through, and know every day how much is available. Back in teh olden days, I would make a mess of my check book constantly, till the statement came in. It was always extremly frustrating. This is SO much easier. Since I started doing this, I havn't bounced that many checks as I used to!
