Would anyone be interested....

Ask:
...in contributing to a thread suggesting recipes and meal idea for the Angel Food Ministries packages? I see there are lots of you who get it so maybe I am not the only one who tries to make the most of it.

My biggest challenge with it is finding a recipe to use the dried beans in that I like. My family loves Ham and Bean soup, I have never heard of it before moving to central Pa. I have had a few bowls that i really liked but the recipes were guarded family secrets... why I have no idea. Unless you're making money off of it why keep it a secret?

Anyway - I would be interested to see what everyone else does with their food - how about you?
Answer:

I absolutely HATE people who act like they have the golden recipes.....and we make ham and bean soup all the time...it's an Ohio thing and also was huge during the depression era,at least for people around here....were they white beans???(like a creamy color?)I can tell ya how to make that....there's NOTHING to it and its deliscious!!!

I'll contribute to any thread food related

and let me know of anyone who has a recipe they dont wanna share..I'll find it and come up with a way for you to TOP there's!!!!

I will be glad to share what I do with my Angel Food items. Did you get the package for this month yet??? I have already cooked the pork chop - I cooked them in pineapple juice, apple juice and brown sugar. It was fantastic - I also cooked the green beans in chicken bullion. I would also love to know what others are doing with their Angel Food Items!!!!
Answer:

I have no idea what came in the last box, I already put it away. It has been just DH and I for a couple months (DS is away finishing HS at a private Quaker school in California.) so the food is lasting a lot longer.

I can jump in with my ideas and suggestions after I look at the package for this month.
Answer:

Cook chicken with chicken broth (or boullion/water) in crockpot all night or day until it falls off bone. Combine with 1/2 can of cream of chicken soup, milk, salt, pepper, and other seasonings if you wish, and ladle over warm biscuits. You can add veggies in chicken mixture if you'd like, DH doesn't like them mixed in so I don't.

I finally made Ham and Bean Soup. I got the recipe from DH's best friends mother - she used to make it for the Bean Soup Festival in McClure Pa. I have never used dried beans before so I thought I should use 2 bags. After they soaked overnight they filled a 8 cup mixing bowl! I ended up having to buy more ham, the leftovers I had from Easter wer enot enough for that many beans.

I cooked the ham in water, enough to cover 2/3 of the ham, I added the beans and set the thermostat on my roaster to 375. After 3 hrs (recommended time to cook the ham I had) I added a can of tomato paste and sprinkled a layer of Mrs. Dash Original spice mix. Continued to cook on low (180 degrees) for a couple hours.

I made enough to can 14 quart jars, I won't need to make that for a lonnnnng time. I have never made it or eaten so I didn't know what to expect - I thought it tasted great - DH thought it needed more salt.
