question for tomato growers

Ask:
Do you ever make your own spaghetti sauce, pizza sauce, ketchup, salsa, etc from the tomatoes you grow? I don't like tomatoes (dh does though) but we use a ton of that stuff. If it would be easy to do I would definitely consider getting a few tomato plants just for sauces and ketchup. Please share any recipes you have too. Thanks!
Answer:

I had a ton of tomatoes last year and really wanted to make spaghetti sauce, but I just didn't get around to it. I didn't have a recipe that I was going to use. I was just going to do a search on the internet for some freezer sauces.
I know my sil has bottled salsa, but I have never tried it. Growing up my mom would bottle tomatoes. Then she would add them to her spaghetti sauce or use then for Macaroni and hamburger. It has been a long time since I helped my mom bottle. I don't have all the stuff to do it myself. That's why I like freezer stuff. You can just throw it in ziplocs and we have a chest freezer.

I make salsa and a tomato sauce. I always modify my recipes to fit my tastes. If you want to make sauce you need ALOT of tomatoes. I dont' have small batch recipes. I'll get my recipe for sauce and post but it won't be until after sunday, getting ready for big party on sunday.

Answer:

We grow a garden and I plant 10-12 tomato plants each year. Two of those are cherry tomatoes which are only good for fresh eating since they are so small. With the other plants we usually have enough tomatoes to make our own spag sauce, tomato sauce, tomato soup and salsa. I can all of this since I like having instant access (I don't have to thaw out frozen tomato sauce) to my food. I don't have a recipe for the spag and tomato sauces since I season it to taste. I can get you the recipe for the tomato soup and salsa if you're interested.

Ooh yes please! (on the soup & salsa).. I'm wanting to grow some tomatoes with DS this year, and this would be great to do.. Thanks

I made speghetti sauce one year, but I'm the only one who likes speghetti. I have a wonderful recipe for marinated tomatoes (awesome with the small cherry ones!).

Has anyone else heard of burying a dead fish under your tomato plants? My husband was told by a farmer that it's really good for your tomatoes (and anything else you plant). We'll see how they do! At least the garden doesn't stink, that was my only worry! I'll be mad, though, if my tomatoes have a fish taste!
