Ask:
sticky rice? I had sticky rice with mango the other night at a thai restaurant and thought I had died and gone to heaven. I tried looking up a recipe online, but it almost made it seem like "sticky" rice wasn't just regular rice...that you actually had to buy "sticky" rice. Does anyone know anything about this? Please?!?
Answer:
It is actually a different type of rice, glutenous rice, but usually called just "sticky rice". You can probably google and find out more or find out how to cook it/where to buy it/etc.
Answer:
You might have better luck if you look for sushi rice. They're one and the same. A short grained, very glutinous rice. The ratio of rice to water is 1: 1.25 - where long grained rice (conventional Uncle Ben's rice) is 1:2.
I buy mine at Whole Foods out of the bulk bins, but you should be able to find it in either the ethnic section of a well stocked grocery store or with the other rices.
Answer:
"glutinous rice" or "sweet rice." both can usually be bought.........to make it it is soaked for a really long time and then steamed to make it "sticky"

Thanks ladies!! I'm going to buy some next time I'm out and make some. It was sooooo good. Sweet but not overpoweringly so. Made with coconut milk then a little coconut milk over it. Yum...I may have to rush off to the grocery now because I'm craving it!!
Answer:
I was wondering about sticky rice myself. We recently got a Chiplote around here and DH LOVES their rice.

Hmmm....I'm not sure this is the same kind of rice. I had it in a Thai restaurant and think it's asian. Usually found in the asian section of the grocery. I'm not sure what kind of rice chipolte has.
Answer:
Sushi rice is definitely different than sticky rice, and I'm guessing the rice at Chipotle is different too.
From Chipotle's website: Cilanto-lime rice: We steam white rice every hour until it's light & fluffy, then toss it with freshly chopped cilantro, a dash of citrus juice, and a little salt. Vegetarian.

I have to say the sticky rice with mango is to die for!! My SIL is from the phillipines and she know how to make it, so I'm learning, it can't be that hard. On second thought maybe I don't want to know how to make since I'm trying to loose weight.LOL
