Sunday is Earth Day!

Ask:
Any plans?

I think we are going to try to plant something- maybe some bulbs or flowers. If we weren't planning to move I would plant a tree.
Answer:

We've got lots of local events to choose from around here. We're going to big park clean up where Tim Hortons is giving away free coffee, Timbits (donut holes) and t-shirts to the volunteers.

I also have to say I am really impressed with our local grocery store - The Loblaws / Zhers / Superstore chain. For earth day they have just launched cloth shopping bags made from post consumer recycled plastic soft drink and water bottles. They are nice bags too and only 99 cents each and you get 5 cents off (50 PC points) for every bag, every time you use it. It must have cost them a lot more than $1 to make these bags! I have felt very much on my own carrying in my own bags for years now. I'm thrilled that this is becoming popular. The bags are selling out faster then they can keep them in the stores, and they were only launched last week.

Here is a picture and description of them.

Answer:

I haven't heard of any events in my community yet but we are supposed to have nice weather (finally!) and I want to plant some grass and work on my flower gardens. Hopefully just spend some time outside!
Answer:

Not sure what is going on here, but we will probably make the most of it with a trip to the park and who knows what else.
Answer:

I think its suppose to hut 70 by then we might go to the park.
Answer:

Our Community plans will be to teach the entire community to live more lightly on our Earth. Some topics that will be addressed are global warming, watersheds reduce-reuse-recycle, litter prevention ,gardening, tree planting and many games, crafts and activities that will share environmental education with children and adults. We will be attending provided its good weather otherwise I will have 2 cranky boys.

Our local grocery store also has started out with canvas bags for .99 cents. They also built a plastic lumber structure to put the plastic bags in that people use!
