I always try to do food themed picnics through the summer and am already trying to make some plans for some new ones....
One I thought of last year and never got to try by end of season was an asian one...I wanna do all "meat on a stick"stuff.asian marinades and dipping sauces ets...think it'll be a cool way to get kids to try new stuff too.(our kids love skewered stuff)
We already to the "burger bar" one,and the "weenie wagon"...and steaks and stuff...looking for some crazy creative ideas!!!
T.I.A.!!!

My first thought, especially since you'll be having a summer picnic is "Raw Foods".
- Fresh fruit and vegetables, freshly squeezed juice (lemonade or orange juice, yum), tabouleh with bulgar (soaked, but still raw) and nuts. Salsa, guacamole and hummus make terrific raw dips. If you're by the pool or a lake, watermelon and mangoes can be enjoyed to the full in their sticky, messy juiciness because a quick dip in the water will clean off the juice.Or jungle picnic with animal food.
- Carrot and cucumber sticks make a tiger hiding in the grass. Gummy snakes and bears. Bunny food (lettuce based salad). Fish food (Pepperidge Farm goldfish). Lions and tigers and bears oh my food - any meat to feed those hungry predators.English tea party.
- Cucumber and/or and smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwiches. Use different coloured bread to make a checkerboard of sarmies. Scones, cream and strawberry or apricot jam. Lemon spiced iced tea or hot tea with milk and sugar if you have access to boiling water or sparkling grape juice. Bring out your best straw hats and ribbons for this one.

My poor husband is the only guy in his group of friends that doesn't get to do the grillin'.
I do all kinds of stuff...I slapped whole chickens on there last year and let em cook on low all day...I do the pizzas on there.......and I am queen of the foil packets...there's nothing you can't cook on a grill one way or the other.

Thought of two more last night whilst cleaning my kitchen.
A Passage to India (or rather the Indian Ocean)
- use food from countries surrounding the Indian Ocean. Samousas are wonderful picnic food - they're good cold, warm or hot and can be eaten out of hand. Lamingtons (sponge cake drenched in a chocolate sauce and dipped in coconut) or pavlovas from Australia for dessert. Tropical fruit punch or smoothies.Pirate's Feast
- especially appropriate given the popularity of Pirates of the Caribbean. Grilled chicken drumsticks (chicken drummies make for good gnawing ) and tuna steaks or calamari. More of that tropical fruit punch, spiked with rum for the adults. Berried treasure (berries and cream). Chocolate gold coins all around.I know you're a great cook (all those wonderful recipes) and shouldn't have any trouble figuring out food, but let me know if you need recipes for the scones or Lamingtons.
