Which monthly bill makes you bristle? - Page 2

Ask:
Satellite bill and internet provider. We are rural and can't get anything besides dial-up and wireless service (the only broadband available besides satellites services). Because of DH's job, we have to have the wireless service that comes in on an antenna. It costs over $100/month. It's worse service than most people can get for a fifth the cost in the city. Seems like such a waste.
Answer:

our cable and internet is 'bundled' and costs $120 a month. We got a ton of use out of it so it doesn't bother me that much. Cell phone bills bother me more, with all the hidden fees.

Get a Tracfone! My mom, husband & I all have Tracfones...we buy a one-year service card for $ 80 (with coupons) or $ 99 and that's all you pay--no plan, no contract, no ridiculous "extras." We used to pay $ 33 a month to AT & T...now, we save $300 a year.

Unless you're on the cell constantly and you need unlimited minutes...the Tracfone is a great deal!

Hands down it's our phone bill. It is combined with our internet but it is still $150 a month. And that's if we don't make many long distance calls! Where we live we're a captive audience we have no choice except to go with the one we are going with or one of the internet ones, and they make me nervous. I'd never forgive myself if we were in an emergency and couldn't call out because the computer was down or something. To me phone service - not internet phone service, just regular phone service is just a necessary evil.
Answer:

We just reduced our landline home phone to a 'lifeline' type of service which is supposed to be $10.65 a month. I haven't seen the reduction in our bill yet. I'm still waiting!

My cellphone is $43 a month. I took a bunch of options off of that bill and reduced it quite a bit. It is now our main phone number. Thankfully, hubby's company was re-imbursing us for much of that cost however his company is going through a transition and I don't know if that will continue. Between the cellphone $43, the landline $11 (more or less), and my business phone line $27, that's $81 just for phone service - and I'm not on the phone that much!

Our satellite service is $54 a month and we don't have any premium channels. I think it is ridiculously expensive considering what you get but cable in our area is even more expensive!

And our high-speed internet line went up to $48 a month. That's insane. Thankfully, it is tax deductible for us.

So let's see: $81 (telephone), $54 (satellite) and $48 (internet) equals $183 a month just to be connected to the outside world. And people wonder why we can't afford to live like our parents. Well, our parents didn't have all these expenses!
Answer:

our cable/high-speed internet...up until last month it was almost $110. However, I called to complain about the continual rising fees and they reduced it to $72 just for asking!
Answer:

Since we moved it is our gas and electric bills!!! The utilities are sooo much higher here than what I am used to!
Answer:

Definitely the cellphone bill. I hate our service and can't wait to get out of the contract. Unfortunately about a year ago I made some changes to the contract and only found out at the very end of the conversation that the changes locked us into another 2 years.

When the contract runs out next year I'll leave DH on with the service - he's a firefighter and uses the Nextel walkie-talkie all the time, and I'm either going back to AT&T or Verizon.

[quote=Mom2One] We considered dropping down to "basic" cable, but the one thing we really enjoy that is cable-only is pro cycling--we are glued to VERSUS during the Tour de France.QUOTE]

FINALLY!!!! Every July, I am the sole TDF fan here!!! There used to be one other, but she has not been around in awhile! We are TDF JUNKIES and have been since long before Lance! I remember when Marco Pantani won! That was one of my favorite years!

To answer your question, I don't like paying our phone bill. I am thinking of getting rid of the land line to save $20 a month. We use our cells for long distance and only keep our land line for 911 issues and to use when we need them during hurricanes now. The phones never seem to go out. But, it drives me nuts to pay it.
Answer:

phone/internet/dish they are the worst1!
