I received this from a girlfriend of mine yesterday....please read....
This is a mom from a parents group I belong to. This mom put her daughter
down for a nap wearing barrettes. Lets keep this family in our
thoughts at this very hard time!
Andrea put the baby down for a nap yesterday afternoon and was
excited because the baby was napping much longer than usual. She
said she was getting a ton of stuff done and kept thinking - please
just sleep a little longer!! She finally went to check on Emily
after about 3 1/2 hours - she usually naps around 2 hours. Andrea
said she just figured that Emily was getting sick or something and
needed extra sleep. I can't even imagine the guilt she must feel.
Well, when she went in the room, she noticed something was wrong
because Emily always sleeps curled on her side and this time she was
prone on her back. She was not breathing. Andrea immediately
called 911 and when the medics got there, they said she was gone.
THEY FOUND HER BARRETTE IN HER THROAT!! They don't know if she
purposfully took it out of her hair and was chewing on it or if it
came out and she somehow accidentally inhaled it.
Please pass this along to anyone with little ones.

Wow, that is so heartbreaking! Thanks for sharing. We don't always realize how little things can be so dangerous to children...makes me really stop and appreciate how precious my baby is. They are in my thoughts.

When my girls got their shots I always had pants on them even in the summer so the bandaids couldn't be a choking hazard as well.

I am so sorry for your friend. I will put her in my prayers to night. The odd thing is my day care gal and I were talking today about the fact my dd hair is starting to finally grow enough to put a barrett in. I said I was leary b/c the 2 I tried it she pulled it out and since everything is going in her mouth these days I did need to add anymore stress to my day. Weird.
