UGH My son costing me money!

Ask:
Here I am trying to be better with my money. We left for Shreveport LA (4.5 hours away) on Friday. I asked my 12 year old son to feed and water the dog before we left. That was about 1 pm. Well my MIL calls the next day saying she came over to let my other dog out and noticed I had a pond in my backyard. My son left the waterhose on from about 1 Friday to about 10 the next morning!

I'm dreading seeing that water bill!
Answer:

You should teach your son the consequences of wastage - when the water bill comes in, give an esstimate on how much he "spent" wasting that water and make him pay it - either in pocket money or additional chores around the house.

I assure you, he will think twice about doing something so silly again.

My kids don't do chores (which I know that they should) but I will probably make him do something to make this up.
Answer:

I agree!! Does he get an allowance at all?? I would take that away until the water bill is paid off. And YES make him do some extra chores.
Answer:

Ouch! I've done that before too. I was running late for work and feeding/watering the dogs and just threw the hose down and forgot to shut it off. It wasn't fun at all.
Answer:

Oh no!

My Dh left the hose running once and after a day or so I noticed water in the basement. We were standing in the basement wondering what the heck was going on when he got this look on his face, ran upstairs and shut off the hose. L.OL.
