Fitting into your pants...

Ask:
Ok... I know you gain weight when you're pregnant. Your belly gets bigger and whatnot, and I know that when you have your baby the... tissue in between your hip bones like dissolves to make room for the baby to come through.

Basically... could you fit into your normal pants after having your baby?? My daughter is 5 weeks old on Wednesday. And I cannot fit into my normal pants. All I can think of is how... my stomach is SO much smaller, I only have like 13 pounds to lose and I'm back to my pre-pregnancy weight. And how when I was pregnant and my stomach was this big (since there's still a little there obviously) I could fit into my pants still. Some of them were tighter than others but... I could fit into them, just... very snuggly. And now... I cannot. I'm starting to wonder if I'm going to need to buy new pants.

Does that tissue that was there grow back and... for lack of better wording bring your hips back in together? Is that why they don't fit?

I want to wear pants...
Answer:

doesn't dissolve. It softens/stretches. Sorry

I hate to burst your bubble, but ds is 6 months now and I'm still not back in my old pants.

About 3 weeks after he was born, I fit in a few things pretty well. But since then things have shifted a little bit - I mean, i didn't gain any weight in my thighs while preggo (although maybe I did and my big belly just made them look thin!) but now I have. My favorite old jeans just laugh at me from the closet.

I'm still one size bigger than before my pregnancy, and I guess that's ok for now. They say "9 months up, 9 months down" and I'm hoping that magically it will go back to normal by then!! Until then, I have bought a few pairs of cheaper pants to keep me looking decent, - and 2 of them are pants I bought and wore while 4-6 months pregnant!! Those darn books say to buy things a size bigger for awhile before getting into maternity clothes, and I did that. But how depressing that they fit perfectly still now...

Oh well... one size bigger isn't the end of the world, I figure. I'm eating healthy and getting exercise and my body will either go back to how it was or find a new "normal" and as long as it's all healthy and functioning properly (and I'm not afraid of the mirror...) then I'm happy.

I agree with what Mama-abraod said about nine months to gain...give it nine months to lose. I wouldn't go buying a whole new wardrobe....but a few things to get you through a couple of months wouldn't be a bad idea. Just don't look at the size....get what is comfortable.

I gained 60 pounds all three times....the first two times I lost all of it...and this time...it has been 11 months and I have about 2-3 pounds to go. Most of my "old" clothes fit....but not all of them.

Good luck!! hang in there.....your body is still getting back to normal.

Your body usually does store fat in other places than your abdominal area when you're pregnant (I didn't realize it at the time because all the focus was on the size of my belly ). Additionally, if you're nursing, your body is probably going to want to hold on to some of those fat stores for awhile longer. When I read Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy I remember the author saying that she held onto some of the "baby fat" for up to a year after the birth. Nursing still is a great way to shed the post baby weight though.

I was one of the lucky ones in that I think I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight within about 6 to 8 weeks postpartum with both my pregnancies (I started exercising as soon as possible afterwards and I think my boys sucked everything else right out of me!). I was back in my pre-pregnancy shorts/pants about 2 weeks postpartum with the first, but definitely later with the second. Even now, though, my body shape is different than it was before I had my kids (extra skin and fat in the abdominal area)...it's a fact of life and a well earned battle scar I guess!

Body shape and size can be very misleading right after you have a baby. That 13 pounds may be distributed throughout your body rather than localized in your abdominal area (making it much harder to notice), but either way it will affect how your pants fit. Don't lose heart though...keep working on losing the weight and you'll get there eventually .

5 weeks! Hahahahaha!!! Sorry, but you need to give it alot longer than that!! I think I was still wearing maternity clothes at that time!
Answer:

Yes, I have noticed the same thing...pregnancy just changes your body!!!!!
My son will be 2 in June and I still have 5 more pounds to loose before I get back to pre-prego weight. I must say I was lacking in the exercise dept. for a while....so I am just happy I at this point!!

My new problem is that I feel like my upper arms are bigger from lifting a toddler all of the time.

I am sorry, my response sounded kind of mean, and I did not mean for it too!!! Even if you are back to the same weight, (after my first, I weighed less than before she was conceived) you will not be the same shape and there is a good chance that your pre-pregnancy clothes will never fit quite right again.

Keep in mind also you're retaining TONS more fluid right now. My OB told me not to expect to be back down before 3-6 months, and then I was to ADD 10lbs to me prepregnancy weight and that would be my NEW ideal weight.
