Baby Must Haves for Beach Vacations

Ask:
I am DREAMING of our summer getaway to the beach, but I can't help wondering what I will need for little DD, who will be 9 months old. What do I need besides the basics...shade, towels, sunscreen, bathing suits, swimmers, coverups, hats with a big brim...
(I am so not looking forward to breastfeeding in a bathing suit!)
What do you do about naps on the beach and playing on the beach. She will have a 2 year old boy and 4 year old boy playing around so she has to be "protected" from them at all times.
Answer:

I saw on a website they have outdoor gear for babies and it has little travel tents that look really neat. I'm not sure how well they work or anything but they are supposed to pop up quick and be easy to take down and small to carry. The website was I believe.

I have been having the same dream for months! This will be the first summer I have had off ( I'm staying at home now) since before I had children.

I'm not sure what all you would need, but I think packing a cooler along with drinks and snacks is always a good idea.
Does anyone know how old your baby has to be before you can use sunscreen? Mine will be about five months.
Answer:

Thanks. Has anyone used the popup tents. I was wondering how much sand would end up inside and if they get hot

I think my baby sunscreen says 6 months. I would check with your pediatrician. There may be brands that are recommended for younger babies.

I can't wait to take my daughter to the beach this summer. She'll be ten months when we go.

My kids have been beach babies since birth! One of the things I love is the SuperYard Playgate. It's pretty portable & I think they sell a "semi" shade for it. I like it better than dragging a pack & play on the beach because #1 baby will still get some time in the sand, #2 you can get in there with her #3 No sand in your pack & play!

Usually I bring a big beach blanket & set the play yard over it then fill with toys.
Some kids have also been able to nap in this, but mine were always too distracted. I bought a fold up, portable hammock at Target. That thing is awesome-it really does set up in seconds. At nap time, Mommy or Daddy take a rest too & baby sleeps with us.

I also use a pop up tent, but it's usually more work than good. On windy days, I'm glad to have it to block the wind.

Also, for smaller babies-(like under 6 months) I think the best thing out there are the fisher price bassinets that have the zip up screen. My kids would just sleep and play in there all day-protected from wind, sun, bugs & sand.

Have fun, I hope you have a great time!

PS-You might not want to do too much "protecting" from the 2 and 4 year olds! They may be the best amusement out there for a 9 month old!

I was going to suggest a little bucket and shovel and some other small toys, that it wont matter when they get covered in sand, maybe a beach ball to roll around. My ds loved the beach the first time he was there but he was 11mo. We just kept a onesie on him as it was the beginning of June and not too too hot while we were there. He had the best time crawling, much like a crab, around after his brother in the sand. I'm sure she'll love watching the other kids run around! I forgot the baby powder as I heard that is great at getting all the sand off before heading to the car, hotel or where ever. Don't forget the camera!
