Ask:
I was just on another website's message board and the question was posed, How much do you spend on food per person, per day? Some of the answers were between $2.00-$3.50!! I thought that sounded really low (this is another website about being frugal), so I figured out how much I spend. I have to say, I was completely shocked and horrified at the amount we spend on food! It was easily more than double what others were spending...closer to $7.44 per person per day, if I figured right. That's close to $37.20 a day on food. I know that in January and February (the months I was using for this), we ate out a lot more than normal, so our average is probably $1 or $2 lower, but STILL!!! I also noticed that we are spending WAY more on eating out than I thought. We have 5 in our family and we end up feeding half of my DH's friends and family on a weekly or more basis. It's a given that, if you are hungry, you can come over and I will feed you. We've been that way since we were first married.
I'm going to sit down and refigure this, to make sure my numbers are right.
Answer:
I am the same, I spend WAY too much on food, but I almost feel like if dh and I work so hard, why can't we have good food? But I am trying that Angel Ministries here in PA to save some money on my food bill. I spend over $100/wk prob. close to $150/wk and with gas at almost $3/gallon, we have to cut somewhere!
Answer:
We spend $25 a week per person so $3.57 per day per person.
Last year I averaged, $35 per person per week but this year I've really been able to cut back. Making a menu with a list and sticking to it is my biggest money saver.
Answer:
we average around 3.25 per person per day. i feel we eat good food we eat fresh fruit and veggies. we just watch and get whats in season and also we don't eat out maybe once a month if that and its somewhere cheap... we also watch portion sizes closely that was a big waster in our house to much on peoples plates that got thrown away..now we use that food for leftovers instead of having to throw it out.
Answer:
We have a family of five. We average around two dollars a day per person. One thing that has helped me cut this down is to avoid individually packaged items. They are way more expensive. Looking at the back of the box and figuring out portion size has helped too. we have one meatless meal a week. Something like pancakes(.60 per meal for the whole family) or grilled cheese.
