Ask:
My poor DH (almost 6 weeks old) has the worst case of acne in the world. It coats his face, it's on his scalp and chest and neck and ears.... The doctor says just wait it out, and just wash with water. But I looked it up online and found many other "tried and true" remedies from different moms, which include:
lettuce leaves soaked in distilled water
selson blue
cetaphil
various kinds of lotions
breast milk
But for every cure, someone else has tried it to no avail, and sometimes to additional irritation. Any of you swear by other baby acne treatments? I'm trying a test spot of breastmilk, to see if that helps.
Answer:
I would leave it... a LOT of babies get 'baby acne' and it does, and will go away. It's not bothering your baby.. only you.
And under NO circumstances would I use anything like Selsun blue, Cetaphil, etc... Baby skin is SO tender and sensitive...
The most I would do is buy some Baby Aveeno on it to calm it a bit.. that's it.
Answer:
I have never heard of any thing working for baby acne. I think you just have to wait it out.
Answer:
It is not supposed to bother them - if it did, then you should definitely do something, but it's really cosmetic - baby's getting rid of hormones - Short of breastmilk, I would just leave it.
This too, shall pass.
Answer:
I agree, its just hormones being released from the body. It will pass, just be patient.

My son (now 8 weeks) is just getting over it. He had it pretty bad, but not quite as bad as your case sounds. I asked the doctor at his 1 month appointment how to get rid of it because he was getting pictures taken and was told that there isn't really anything to do except wait till it goes away on its own. His lasted about 3-3 1/2 weeks. The only place that he really still has it is on him chin. I think that is because he spits up so much that his chin is moist a lot - so maybe keep the face dry?? I don't know about the breastmilk on it since my son's was redder after I would breastfeed him and then would calm down until I fed him again. Let us know if you find something that works.
Answer:
I wouldnt put anything on it!! I get nervous putting baby lotion on my 2 week old's dry skin! My nephews both had acne and by two months it had cleared up for both of them without putting anything on it.
Answer:
My baby's (7 weeks) was worse around her cheeks, chin and neck from spitting up and breast milk. The doctor suggested to try Aquaphor, which made it a lot better after just one day.
Answer:
my nephew was just awful with it...they called it NEWBORN RASH....ohhh he looked awful......almost like he had measels or something.....and just when everybody wants to come and see him ...my sister felt sooo bad....but it cleared right up in alittle while and not signs now the he had it...11yrs later...lol
Answer:
My ds had it really bad and it seemed to last forever. They told me to wash his face with baby soap and water and just keep it clean. My ds has little holes in his face where the baby acne was. He is almost 8 now and all his little friends ask why he has holes in his face. I don't mean to scare you but they told me it would go away and it hasn't. I just worry for him when he becomes a teenager and gets acne.
