Ask:
I was mainly raised by my Grandmother, who called the second meal of the day "dinner", and the last meal of the day "supper". (Always, has...always will.) Breakfast was always "breakfast", however. Now, I suppose this is due to the fact that this is just the language she grew up using, being a native Oklahoman. Thing is...Sometimes I find myself telling my DD, "Okay, come eat your dinner", and she will look at me as if saying, "What are you talking about? It's LUNCH time!!" And then, sometimes I'll say, "Okay, dinner's ready!", when I'm actually talking about the LAST meal of the day...supper. (Or is that "dinner"?? )
Are any of you influenced (or CONFUSED) in this way having had relatives that have "old fashined" terms (by today's standards, I suppose) for meals of the day?
What do you call the "meals of the day" in your house????
Answer:
We usually call them Breakfast, Lunch and Supper. But I learned at the small town nursing home I worked at to call them Breakfast, Dinner and Supper. Lunch is a snack served about 2-3pm. My kids also had this at their daycare. So, yeah, we are all confused here too! I just say come eat!
Answer:
Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Before DD arrived, I occassionally liked to add cocktail hour in before dinner.
Answer:
My great grandmother called it Breakfast, Dinner, and Supper. My grandmother calls it Breakfast, Lunch, and Supper. I (try to) call it Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. I wonder if it's a generational thing too- we all grew up in the same place
