Another Meeting Down......

Ask:
This morning I met with the princiPAL at the school. She's a WONDERFUL WONDERFUL lady and I just love her. I'm so sad that she's leaving the district after this year. Anyway, we talked about my 4 year old going through early entrance for Kindergarten this fall. She was impressed with him! I had the developmental evaluation papers for her that we had done last year and she asked a lot of questions about what skills he has now, what we're working on, etc. She was very encouraging to me as a parent without saying "The school doesn't think this is right" She asked if we'd talked about how it'll effect him getting his drivers license, sports, etc (which we had), and I told her I was more worried about his education than those things. He's physically just as big as the kids headed into Kindergarten this fall, so that works in his favor. Now I wait for a call from the school psychologist about doing his next batch of testing. Then dh and I will meet with the principal again to go over the results before we know if we can take it to the school board for them to approve his early entrance. Please pray he does well. He gets shy around new people and sometimes won't answer their questions....and when he meets the psychologist that will be the first meeting so he may tend to avoid answering questions just because he doesn't know the man. Anyway, thanks for all the thoughts and prayers so far!!

Answer:

I may have missed this before, but why do you want to rush him into Kindergarten? Is his B-day right after the deadline? Just curious.... My son's bday is August 27 the deadline is Sept 1st, He is extremely intelligent and can catch on to just about anything. You can't get anything past him. He too past all the the test needed to enter kindergarten and he looks like he is 8 when he is 5. Wears 8/10 clothes... Really really tall.. ( I didn't want him to enter... because of the no child left behind laws. I had no choice.) He was behind all of the other kids and is most likely going to be retained. I was told that it is developmental. A 4 year old no matter how well behaved can't register all of the information that a 5/6 year old can or do they have the patience... I would really wait it you can. I would rather my child be ahead of the game at 5 than just making it or struggling at 4... JMO.... In any case. I hope it works out the way you want it to. and what ever is best for your ds and family.... Good Luck..
