This recipe is from the Miserly Moms book. My family loves them. We haven't had store bought croutons since I started making them! I use twice as much bread as she calls for and they still taste good. Normally I use regular whole wheat bread but I have also made them with rye and pumpernickel - yummy!
Garlic Croutons
2 tablespoons butter
¼ cup olive oil
2 large garlic cloves, pressed
4 bread slices, cut into ¾ inch cubes
Melt the butter, olive oil, and garlic in saucepan (I do this in the microwave). Place bread cubes in a large mixing bowl. Add butter mixture and mix well. Place on baking sheet and bake at 350 degrees until bread is brown and crisp (20 minutes).

I cube leftover bread, buns, whatever I have on hand and place in a large bag. I add olive oil and Tastefully Simple seasoning salt. Bake at 350 for 15 minutes or until dry and crispy. Everyone loves these. Plain seasoning salt will work but the Tastefully Simple is better.

I cut the crusts off of my kids bread, because the never eat them. I use the left over crusts along with other cubed up bread and toss with Extra Virgin olive oil and greek seasoning. Then I bake at 375 for 11-14 minutes....very yummy!

You can also make your own bread crumbs. I always have a big of crumbs on hand. It is crazy to buy a container of them at the store. All I do it lay the bread (white, wheat, buns, etc) on a cookie sheet and back on 300* until toasted. Let them cool and than put then in a ziploc bag. Take a rolling pin and crush up the bread. Than I just throw a bunch of spices in with it for flavor; basil, italian seasonings, garlic or onion powder, seasoning salt, etc. I use the crumbs for chicken fried steak, chicken fried chicken, chicken parmesean, meatloaf, etc.
