DO any of you ebay ( sell on ebay or someother online auction type thing ) I have been really thinnking about this and wondering if it is worth the time and effort for the average person ( like me ) We have all the stuff that I would need the computer , the camera for photos and such ...so none of that would be cost factor ( for start up cost)

I do put some things on ebay. I have sold Lowe's gift cards, Bath and Body Works Coupons, formula checks and some clothes. I find it is a good way to get clothes I need for my babies as I can just use the money from my paypal account.

The only other cost you will have is packaging materials. Someone I bought from uses the priority mail envelopes and turns tham inside out! Why didn't I think of that. I'm always saving boxes to use also.
I typically sell my kids' clothing once they have outgrown them. Most of their clothing was either bought on ebay, goodwill, of consignment, so I think I get my money back.
It does take time to take the pics and then write your descriptions out, but that's about it. I write my descriptions in Word and then cut and paste when I'm ready to list. My last go round it took about 2-3 hours total and I made $45 after shipping and fees. Then my dh promptly spent it all on a tool!! (He's addicted!)

Turning Priority envelopes inside out is illegal and should not be done. If you don't believe me, just ask the Postal Clerk the next time you are at the PO.
If I had gotten a ebay package from a seller who did that, I would have opened the package and got the stuff I paid for, then taken the packaging back to the PO and left it with the Postmaster to deal with.

Big Daddy is correct. It is illegal to to turn Priority Mail boxes inside. When I sell on Ebay I almost always ship priority mail so I do not have to buy boxes. I have never had any complaints.

You can make decent money on ebay. When we bought this house, we cleaned out our old one and sold everything we did not want or need on ebay (I spent a couple of hours a day on this) All the money went into a separate account and it was used for a down payment for this house!!! We also buy alot on ebay.

I'm an avid ebayer!!! There is NO money in ebaying unless you make it a carreer and I just don't have the time for that. When I do sit down and acutally have tht time to do auctions I do make extra money that is nice to have. but I don't do it often enough to make a living out of it. I DO know people that do it though, they hit garage sales, goodwill, ect, and list all the goodies they find. I tend to mostly sell the kids outgrown clothes, and its VERY tedious.
it is alot of work, but if you put the time and effort into it, you can do well.

I don't turn them inside out....but I do wrap them with newspaper and ship regular parcel post. I don't see what the big deal is.

I sell and buy on eBay and have sold lots of clothes that my son out grew plus old diapers (those things go like mad) and then usually have enough PayPal credit to but clothes that he can wear or another toy. Sometimes it is tedious, but if I didn't sell them they would just take up space or given to Goodwill. If I think that I will make more on eBay than what I can claim on my taxes for sending to Goodwill, I put it on eBay. Good luck!

My sister and I have both done some ebay selling in the past. Right now, I have a whole stack of stuff ready to sell, but no time to do it. Our philosphy is that it's not worth listing anything for less than 9.99. By the time you pay ebay fees, paypal fees and spend all the time listing and shipping, it's not worth anything less. But some people start low and it goes really high, you just never know. It's just our own gauge. We figure our time is worth something too, especially with little ones who grow too fast! It seems that the best time to sell is in the fall up until Christmas, I think it slows down a lot in summer. Good luck!
