Is anyone else drowning???

Ask:
My house is not clean!!!!! That is not an understatement!! It seems like I am always working, but just cannot keep up!! My standards are pretty low too. I have 5 to 7 kids at home (depending on when) and they are very busy with activites and school, I have a preschooler who is home most of the time. I work part time out of the home and part time in the home and I have a dh who works alot!! I also have 3 dogs. By the time I do the regular stuff like cooking, dishes, laundry and running the kids around I am just beat and have no time for scrubbing floors and bathrooms and washing walls and stuff!!! I really think I need some cleaning help, but that is definitely not in the budget!! I don't have time to do all the Fly Lady stuff either. I just feel like I can't get ahead!!
Answer:

You are not alone!!!!!

I did something the other day that helped a lot and I'm going to do it once per week. I got a garbage bag and a laundry bin. I went through each room and cleared surfaces and picked up the floor. All extra papers, magazines, broken toys and junk went into the garbage bag. I put all the kids toys and things in the laundry bin and put it in the middle of their toy room. They had 24 hours to put them away or I was throwing them away.

Don't ever forget, you have help at home, they just need directions. Big hugs sweetie, I think we all suffer from "I can't do all this myself." The thing is, we don't have to, if they made the mess, they can pick it up.

If you are ever off on M, W, or F....join us in our housecleaning challenges. I got almost my entire downstairs done yesterday....and plan to do some challenges in the kids' rooms tomorrow!!

I hear you on this one! I only have a toddler, but she and my DH are constantly making messes! I also work 30 hours a week outside of the home. I have started something just last week that has kind of helped me. Each day I do one load of laundry and clean one room (like dusting and picking up). I have a menu for each day, so I lay out what I am going to make the next night for supper. Luckily, my DH usually helps me with the dishes at night, so if you can get your DH or kids to help with that, it really helps! Then at night, when my DD is in bed, I take 5-10 minutes and pick up the messes she made. On the weekends I vacum and do anything else that I couldn't get to. This works for me, but like I said, I just have a toddler.

You are not alone. A comedian once said "cleaning while you have kids at home is like shoveling when it's still snowing".

I have stuck to a few New Years resolutions that have helped me:every day I sort the mail and put in it's appropriate spot (biller holder, recycle bin or shred pile), do 15 minute decluttering jobs every day.

Try a cleaning schedule and post it so others can help you
Everyday: sweep, clean counters, dishes, make beds, at least 1 load of laundry
Vacuum every other day.
Then assign a room a day of the week: Monday=bathroom, etc.

That quote you quoted...until just recently, that was my signature. I have a plaque in my entryway that says that....and I have had it for over 15 years!!!!

I always assumed as the kids got older there would be less mess to clean up... I was soooo wrong. It didn't get easier just different, I was cleaning just as much. Now that my DD moved out and DS is away at school (till May) cleaning is something I do in my sparetime for a couple hrs each week.

It does get better eventually, I promise!

You are not alone! I have been feeling like that here lately, especially since we have been busy with t-ball. I have a list of 5 chores that dd is supposed to do, and she used to be good at it, but we have all slacked off at keeping them enforced. It just seems neverending sometimes. I try to do a room a night & was doing really good at it until we started getting busy again. I just try to remind myself that it is okay to fail at this once in a while, and just to enjoy my time with the kids.

My house is crap also!! I am trying hard to get it up to par!
Answer:

I am home everyday and I cant keep up with mine. My dd is so lazy refuses to do anything, dsd just makes a bigger mess stuffing--tonite the inlaws were here so she climbed up and started washing on the dishes when I said no and chipped another one of my new plates Dh just watched her knowing I said no! Then he said she wanted to help--she does this crap when his parents are over cause I am not allowed to say anything! Every room here is so stuffed with things--I tryed flylady and I am so behind. Today I did get my side of the closet cleaned and got a 33 gallon bag of just trash out of it! Also managed to mop floors and clean living room. My closets and storage room are busting at the seams--I feel like I am buried!
