indoor "garage sale"

Ask:
We are having a HUGE garage sale this Thursday through Sat. The weatherman says Thunderstorms...rain....more rain....yuck! We advertised rain or shine, so we are still going to have it. We have way too much stuff to fit in our double car garage, so we are going to set up the rest of the stuff in our finished basement. I have some concerns though.
First...the carpet. any suggestions on how to protect it, but not have people tripping?
Second....I am a little nervous about strangers IN my house.

Thoughts?
Answer:

I would be a little nervous about having strangers in my house as well. If it rains and you can't fit everything in your garage, you might think about splitting up the sale in to two weekends. Ugh, I know. But you could tell everyone who stops by to come on back next weekend for more great stuff. True yardsalers (I think I just made up a word ) will come back next weekend. I am crossing my fingers for you in hopes of sunny skies.
Answer:

Well, we had to do somethign like this too, but it was a house that everything was being sold in. Here is what I would suggest.............JMO

I would "rope off" the pathe to your basement from the entrance so no one can "stray" into other parts of your house. Heck, use that police yellow tape for crime scenes! Just kidding.......I would set up the basement with tables right at the entrance of the steps so people can only get to the tables and can't walk around behind them or go beyond where you want them too go. Make the tables kinda like a "baracade" to keep them being able to go anywhere else. And, most importantly, make sure to have someone in the garage and basement at all times. Plus, make sure to have DH home too, just in case. Maybe have someone direct people from the garage to the basement and keep an eye on people coming and going. Good luck!
