Question on running nose....

Ask:
how long do you use the "blue suction" ball thingy to get out all the "snot" at one "sitting"??

Poor Ashlyn, she HATES it, of course, and I just can't bring myself to "torture" her until it is all out...I am lucky to do it once on each side....

So, help me out ladies.....I really can't remember what I did with the older two...

you know this is really like being a mommy for the first time, sometimes....

Do you "hold" them down until it is out??? Or just let it be???
Answer:

I can't stand a runny, snotty nose, so I'd "torture" my dd til it's out. My 15 mo dd can blow out and my 5yo dd is just learning! I've got the teething runny nose right now that I'm constantly wiping. Good luck!!
Answer:

If she's uncomfortable from the stuffy nose, I use it. If she manages to use her mouth and isn't having trouble breathing, I let her be. That bulb can aggravate it if used too much or too hard. What's amazing is that she asks me for it when she thinks she needs it!!
Answer:

Unless they are super congested, I just let them be. When they were really little I'd use the aspirator (or as we called it the snot sucker), but as they got older I used it less and less. I've not had to use it on either of them in quite some time.
Answer:

I agree I used it only if it was difficult for her to breathe
Answer:

With Elise, I'd use it if she was having trouble breathing or before a feeding (she nursed). With the twins, we had a suction machine in the house. It's like one they have at hospitals, and there are these little attachments for it. One was for suctioning Lily's tracheostomy, but there was another nasal bulb one that had a small white bulb on the end. MUCH more effective than the blue aspirators, and MUCH faster! We still have the suction machines out in the garage, actually (even though all 3 kiddos can blow their own noses now). Dh thinks they will be great for cleaning out fish tanks!
