What do you do with your kid's school awards and such?

Ask:
My son is only in the first grade and he already has a lot of awards / certificates. Some projects he has done, Ive decided Id like to keep. I have a school book that I got and I put his report cards, school photo and write in stuff about his school yr. But I cant put everything I want in it.
So whats a good way to store your kids stuff? Like drawings/projects etc??
Answer:

You could set up part of a wall, maybe the hallway outside his room with frames to be his art gallery and hang his drawings and even pictures of his projects. When he gets new ones he can rotate them out.

When our baby comes I will be starting a rubbermaid box to keep special things in. I have a ton of awards from when I was in school and I love to see them sometimes.

A rubbermaid box is a great idea if you have storage room. DD is only three so most of her creations are of the construction paper variety. I put them up in the laundry room. They brighten up a dark space and I (and she and DH) can enjoy them but they aren't cluttering up the refrigerator. I hate for the day to come when I toss out anything DD creates. I am waaaay too sentimental for stuff like that.

I buy a artist's portfolio every year to keep art work and such...it works out great for me in that it's large, but it's flat, so it's easy to store.

Certificates and such, it depends, academic ones I file with their report cards in my filing cabinet. When they get awards, trophies or certificates for sports, they like to keep them in their room. We have so many for swimming now that I bought a binder for each kid to keep the program, awards/ribbons and certificates for each swim meet. It's all organized and we do one binder per year.

The art gallery wall is a great idea. I always had a wall in my family room where I displayed the most current awards and honerable mention artwork. When it was time to replace them I stored them in a plastic lidded bin. My kids over the years have perused their bins, they contain so many memories. I have 3 of my favorite pieces one from each of the kids framed and hanging in my bedroom - they are part of the "permanant collection."

I keep my favorites on the fridge and rotate them as new come in. I take the ones I do not have the heart to throw away and I have a large tupperware container to keep all his valueable things in. Such as baby blankets, prized possisions, art and awards....

a friend gave me a hint years ago about getting one of those big plastic underbed boxes for each of my kids. Then anything you want to keep you just open and flop it in. So I keep report cards, standardized testing, their yearly pediatric exams with height and wt, etc. Plus of course there's some baby stuff. I would keep any kind of awards like that too. I know a lot of people put up a display at their children's high school graduation open house and they'll display awards, etc then. Bragging...yes, but everyone does it so they can't complain. HTH
Answer:

Do you scrapbook? I just came back from visiting my sister who does. She had the cutest idea. She takes art work and certificates from her girls and uses them as background paper for scrapbook pages! She either uses the originial art, or if not applicable, she takes it and makes a color photo copy of it, cut down to size. BRILLIANT!
