Teachers.....would you want to know.....

Ask:
Ok to all the teachers here i have a question.

My son is in Kindergarten. He has a wonderful teacher.

I met a mom whose son could go into her class next year. She was asking about the school and about the teacher. Of course i raved about how wonderful she is and how i loved the school. Then she told me her son had some issues. He's even been known to kick his preschool teacher and refuses to listen.

Now i am wondering if i should worn ds's teacher about this boy who is coming into her class.

I wish i had known about his problems before i told this mom how wonderful our teacher is.

This is the same kid who kicked his mom in the shin because she wouldn't give him soda.

What should i do. Thanks so much!
Answer:

I wouldn't say anything to the teacher because:

1. The kid might act differently at school and not be a problem at all.

2. You will be saying bad things about another person's child (whether it's true or not).

3. You don't want to color the teacher's opinion of the kid before he even gets into her class.
Answer:

Im not a teacher but I do think Kids can change over the summer and the teacher will learn quick enough! but maybe the child will be diff for her than others!! JMO

Say nothing. Not your business. He may mature over the summer. She may already know and be sensitive about confidentiality. He may not be in her class. You may brand a kid who has improved. If not, they will have their methods in dealing w/him, but give him a chance. It's also very possible that a different teacher can bring out the best in him.

As a teacher, although a MS/HS teacher, I can say that I wouldn't want you to tell me anything about someone else's child. I think it is GREAT that you like this teacher so much, and it is also great that you rave about her to other parents!! Just that positive message will probably make a difference in how both the parent and the child see the teacher, if he gets into her class next year. I like to keep things positive, and if the parent & child know they're getting the "good" teacher, his behavior may change dramatically.

It is always interesting to see how students can change when the teacher changes. In fact, I have had a few students over the years who are labeled as "difficult", "rowdy", "stubborn", etc., who have become wonderful students in my classroom. Granted, I've had my share of those labeled students who are still miserable in my classroom as well -I'm no miracle worker!!- but I do think that maintaining positivity has a lot to do with the success stories.

At any rate, your ds's teacher is a professional and she'll know how to deal with this child, should he be a problem.

It is great that you are so concerned, though!!
Answer:

Don't take this the wrong way, but

Mind your own business. Teachers deal with difficult children all the time. It is not your place to "warn" her.
