I am under attack!!!

Ask:
The Legos and Bionicles are taking over my house! I cannot even tell which pieces are which (many look very similar), but my boys play with these constantly!! They take pieces off different Bionicles to create unique Bionicles which is GREAT. But they have them all over the darn house!

We have tried umpteen "systems" -- large Rubbermaid bins, smaller "tote-able" bins, then I even allowed them to use my decorative baskets b/c they complained that they use them EVERY day and shouldn't have to carry them upstairs EVERY night. But all the baskets would get dumped everywhere, in addition to the large bins being brought downstairs!

Mind you, there are certain lego's my kids don't want to "inter-mingle" -- there is a huge tub of bright, primary colored legos. They cannot come into contact with the large bins of miscellaneous Legos. Then, they have another bin for certain "kits". The Exoforce are in another area. The Bionicles are in separate bins (but get mixed up with Legos when I clean up, b/c I can't always differentiate.) To add to the chaos, we also have separate bins for the "Star Wars" lego sets, as well as the very similar "Mega Blok" building sets.

I keep my house very tidy, so you can imagine my distress with the 2 older boys wreaking havoc on the place with all their "pieces" & creations --- which, by the way, have to be displayed all over my dining room table, kitchen table, entertainment center, countertops, wherever they can keep them "temporarily".... plus I have the 2 yo destroying the house all day, with me following behind frantically trying to keep up with it.

BTW they also build with K'NEX almost daily....

I know one day all this will be a distant memory!
Answer:

And a fond distant memory. My place is the same way. Little diva likes to imitate his building of Bionicles. She is BEGGING for me to let her play with his tiny Lego pieces. Ain't gonna happen. Too much goes in the mouth as it is!

We need to get out of Metro Nui! Vakama, where are you?
Answer:

Could you maybe rotate some out. Put the legos away for the morning or a few days while they play with the Bionicles and then once they are finished with them and have them cleaned up switch out? I am a super tidy person too and I have a basement area of toys we rotate, it's less to keep tidy and it seems to them they are always getting something new!
Answer:

That sounds like my house! Between the legos, k'nex, bionicles, and magnetix, it gets so frustrating! If you find something that works, please let me know.

I rotate toys too. It makes cleaning up much easier! Plus, when legos are brought back again, they will be like "all new" toys!
Answer:

That sounds like a reasonable suggestion (rotating) but I have not figured out how to do this, with so many "sets" everywhere. Plus, they really do play with all of these things each day. I would feel like I was punishing them?????

But I am getting sick of vacuuming up these pieces, and stepping on them! Ouch!

I will give some more thought to rotating. I will try to think of a place to store them while they are "out" of the rotation.
Answer:

This happens with Doll toys and clothes around here!!
