Leftovers for Dummies

Ask:
I've never been big on leftovers, probably because I didn't do much cooking before. Now that I'm trying to reduce my grocery bill and eating at home most of the time, I have leftovers that get thrown out a lot because I'm not convinced that I can make them edible for consumption again after a night in the fridge. I'm sure this seems silly to most of you frugal pros, but I need a crash course in leftovers!

Some questions I have are-

1. What kind of containers do you store your leftovers in? Are some things okay for some types of foods, but not others?

2. What kind of foods make the best leftovers?

3. Are there some foods that just don't make good leftovers at all?

4. Do you do anything special when you reheat your leftover food that makes it safer/tastier?

Any thoughts you have would be very helpful! Thanks in advance!
Answer:

I store alot of stuff also just in baggies so I can toss it later.

One thing to always remember about leftovers...is if your not into them...scale your original recipe back if possible to avoid having any in the first place.

Cut big pieces of meats in 1/2 and such and freeze...(noone feels tempted to open the freezer and toss meat)just because you buy the family pack of chops doesn't mean ya gotta cook em all.

I don't like spaghetti leftovers. That's prob my least favorite.

I try to keep my leftovers limited to the meats....most are great for quesadillas-salads-etc.

Veggies I dont mind either, reheated doesn't bother me or tossed into a casserole or such.

Maybe also give us some specific ideas of things your lookin do do with as a leftover..makes it easier to give suggestions.
Answer:

Mac & cheese never tastes good reheated in my oppinion. I try to make new dishes with leftovers so you don'y feel like you are eating leftover. With leftover chicken we will have chicken quesadias, chicken potpie, chicken casserole, chicken pizza, chicken fried rice. You can also use leftover vege's in these dishes. With leftover steak we could have stir fry, shepherd pie, steak sandwiches. Leftover mashed potatoes I heat um up a little add some chopped onion, butter , salt, pepper, egg & little bit of flour make patties, fry them and have potatoe cakes. You can also make kabobs. Be creative!!
