You could always do peddle pushers (capri pants).....bobby socks and white sneakers. then a white t-shirt with a scarf around the neck....pull the hair up in a pony tail.

I made one for DD. It was easy - a circle of pink fabric and a length of the wide black elastic for a waistband. They sell the iron-on poodles at the fabric stores - even WalMart has them. I used a black permanent marker to make a long leash across the face of the fabric and I used fabric glue to paste rhinestones on the poodle's collar. It too me less than an hour to make.

My mother didn't know much how to sew, but she did make me a sock hop costume once. It was really easy. She made it out of felt, so there was no hemming or anything. It looked really cute! You can wear a long sleeved white t-shirt with it and Payless Shoes sometimes carries kids oxford shoes.
