NO GAS...On May 15th 2007

Don't pump gas on may 15th

In April 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted
nationwide in protest of gas prices. Gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a
gallon overnight.

On May 15th 2007, all internet users are to not go to a
gas station in protest of high gas prices. Gas is now over $3.00 a
gallon in most places.

There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on the
internet network, and the average car takes about 30 to 50 dollars to
fill up.

If all users did not go to the pump on the 15th, it
would take

$2,292,000,000.00 (that's almost 3 BILLION) out of the
oil companys pockets for just one day, so please do not go to the gas
station on May 15th

and lets try to put a dent in the Middle Eastern oil
industry for at least one day.

If you agree (which I cant see why you wouldnt) resend
this to all your contact list. With it saying, ''Don't pump gas on May
15th"

I think it's a noble effort but unless it is coupled with not using gas/diesel powered vehicles the same day - people who don't buy gas that day and still drive are going to need to get gas on another day. The companies will still make a profit just not on that day.

As long as we continue to buy and use they will continue to raise the prices... what business wouldn't?
Answer:

This letter comes around every few months for years now - whenever there is a spike in gas prices. It won't make any difference. Unlike other commodities, gasoline is an absolute necessity unless you live in an area w/ good public transit. If you don't buy it on that day, that means if you are low on gas you'll just buy it the day before, or the day after. It just shifts the purchase- it doesn't eliminate it at all.

Yup, thats what I was gonna say

It stinks, I wish there really was something we can do. I guess we can just count ourselves luckey its not $4 a gallon....yet.

I actually read this on Snopes.com the other night. There's no real rationality to it. The ONLY one it hurts is the everyman who is inconvenienced by it. Snopes does a good job of showing how....OK, I'm gonna say it...stupid the idea is.

That said, I do think it's time the govt. steps in. The oil and gas companies are making record profits. I was out and about today and saw gas prices ranging from $3.03 per gallon to $3.38 per gallon! That's gouging! A 30 cent difference. Pity the poor sap who puts gas in and then literally 5 blocks away sees the lower price. In any other industry, people would stop doing business at the gouger and he'd go out of business in time. Not here. The one doing $3.03 will probaby raise his prices...because he can!
Answer:

Doesn't gas prices just make you sick. Think about 6 years ago we were paying $1 a gallon. I could fill my tank for $14 when my car was completly empty now if I did that it would be $45. I don't think that much has changed in the oil industry. I know our working person wages haven't gone up that much. (I wasn't meaning the oil industry employes, I have no idea if they are making more)
