Ask:
I just received my hydroxocobalamin (B12-A) from a pharmacy in Texas (it's not sold in Canada). The pharmacist did not send me a box, and plastered a label almost all the way around the bottle, which made me suspicious. I peeled off part of his label, and the expiration date is June 2007 on the bottle. His label has the expiration date as November 2007!
I called the manufacturer, and was told that the meds are not to be used past June 2007, which is one month away. This bottle should last me for nine months.
Who is the pharmacy or pharmacist accountable to? The FDA? Some pharmacy board? Does anyone know? I have to pursue this now.
Answer:
First, complain to the pharmacy. Second, consider contacting the Attorney General in the state where that pharmacy operates. They should tell you if they pursue action or if there is another overseeing body in that state.
Answer:
contact the pharmacy first he could of used pills from a diff bottle that had a longer expiration. Sounds odd to me since pharmacist rally use the manufactor bottles
Answer:
Call the pharmacy- He probably thought that because you ordered from 'out of country'
You would not be so vigilant and check all the neccessary items.
It may have been an honest oversight but as a pharmacist he should know if the meds expire as the manufactor said. Some meds have a little shelf life but not 3 months.
But you said label was wrapped around and the expiration date was changed
I would call pharmacist and complain.
As for who to call next I'm not sure.
I usually hear about people ordering Meds from Canada not vice versa.
Answer:
Thanks for the suggestions! I want to be armed with information before I call, in case he refuses to replace it.
For anyone else needing this, I just found out I need to contact the Texas State Board of Pharmacy at 512-305-8000, or on the web at .
The B-12A is manufactured only in the U.S., and I've been on it for 20 years for my pernicious anemia (I'm an American). The pharmacist also charged me double the amount I usually pay. Sleezebag!

It's an injectable form of B-12, so you get the manufacturer's bottle.
Answer:
This is just dead wrong! I hope he gets fired for this and how many other people has he done this to? Could you tell us more about your medical condition? I 've never heard of it before.
Answer:
Sorry this happened to you. i work at a pharmacy and that pharmacist shouldn't have sent you that bottle. In my pharmacy we pull meds from the shelf that are going to expire within 6 months, so that drug wouldn't have been on our shelf. Maybe he was trying to hide the exp. date b/c he was trying to clear his shelf. I would definatley all him and the texas board and report him.
Answer:
I'm curious about this - please update us when you have something.

Thanks for the support! I'll let you know how it goes after I talk to him. This pharmacy used to be our family drug store. The current pharmacist inherited the business from his father (who was great), but this guy isn't so great...
Here's a llink about pernicious anemia that says it better than I can. It was the first in my collection of autoimmune diseases!
