What to feed baby when....

Ask:
they have decided that they just don't like baby food anymore??

My very independent baby who will be ONE on the 23rd of this month, has decided....not only does she not want to eat baby food, but she also wants to feed herself. Which means that I have to come up with "finger foods" that are healthy at the same time....

If I am lucky she will let me feed her soup...cause she just loves soup....but I need some other ideas for "finger foods". Besides hot dogs and chicken nuggets, I would like to stay away from those....

Any ideas??
Answer:

My girl just turned 1yr old also and she does not want to eat baby food either. Since she was about 8 month's old she did not want to eat baby cereals and she has been wanting to feed herself for a long time (big brother influence I guess!!).

I Buy the Nutrios cereals (in the baby food aisle) so she can eat those herself with her fingers. Also I cut up all fruits so she can eat those herself also.

She likes grated cheese and eggs are also good for babies (some say they should eat at least 3 to 4 a week). I cook veggies so that they are still a bit crisp but not to much and she can eat those herself also.

Finally, pasta is great and if you don't mind the mess you can add any kind of sauce. My trick: I give her pasta so she can eat herself (without the sauce) and I feed her the pasta with the sauce in between bites.

I tell myself that it's a sign of maturity and that soon she will eat on her own and it will all be worth it!

Imo they should not be eating baby food by the time they are one. My kids all ate table food by the time they were about 10 months old. Soft veggies (canned are good) and canned fruits are good. Crackers and cheese, chopped up lunch meat or hot dogs. Almost any pasta dishes (though these are messy!) Almost anything that you eat (except tough meats) cut up into little pieces are good.
Answer:

For the fruit portion I would say cut up grapes, slice bananas, blueberries, mandrin organges.

Cheerios, toast, bagels w/cream cheese, any cheeses.

I always made my own chicken nuggetts. Make a batch and freeze them for when you need them.

How did you do this...care to share??
Answer:

Wow, I guess I am doing ok then, she loves yogurt, and pasta, and she eats some veggies.
And she really likes crackers and cheese. And cheerios of course.

I had not thought about the fruit, GREAT ideas.

I guess because the baby food dinners, are turkey and chicken and such...I didn't think all of those foods were "good enough", if that makes any sense.

But now I see that they are. Thank you ladies!!
Answer:

My babies both love mandarine oranges and fruit cocktail. Eggs are are a big one at my house. My dd pretty much eats anything that we eat I just cut it up very tiny.
