Cut-offs

Ask:
Just wondering if boys can get away with cut-offs anymore? Both my boys have gone through a growth spirt, and the jeans are too worn in the knees to pass down.

Any way to make them look decent, I don't sew...

Answer:

I don't know if this will work with jeans...but I think there is a tape or a spray that you can get to use with your iron to keep the hem up....that could be an option.
Answer:

I think the cut offs are ok only if after you've cut them they are still pretty loose around the legs like shorts normally are. But I'm not sure and would probably tend to give them to Goodwill or something if they're still wearable.
Answer:

I was wondering the same thing. My son has managed to get holes in several pairs of jeans and a few will be too short in the fall to wear as play jeans. Has anyone else cut off jeans to wear as shorts?
Answer:

Why not?

I think they would make great, sturdy, play shorts. Don't hem them, just hack them off and go. Who cares what they look like when they are playing?

Go for it!
Answer:

Funny you bring this up.....I just told Matt yesterday that I want to cut off all the jeans that the boys have managed to get holes in the knees. I figure that even if they only wear them in our yard, they will still be getting more wear out of them than if I throw them away.
Answer:

We aren't allowed cut offs in school..but we are almost OUT of school anyhow! There IS a spray adhesive you can buy to turn under a hem, if you need to. I havne't seen the cut off look around here recently...but to play in, I am with the others...it doesn't matter!
