Dogs & shots

Ask:
For those with dogs -- does your dog get shots annually and which ones? Besides the rabies, do you really think a dog needs all the shots the vet says they do? Nothing is mandatory here besides rabies.
Answer:

I trust my vet to tell me what my dog needs. Right now, I can't seem to remember what shots she gets, but it's whatever the vet says she needs.
Answer:

Absolutely.

It was an eye opening experience when we rescued our Aussie mix from Animal Control. The Humane Society was full so she had to go to Animal control. It is a much nastier scarier non-people friendly place. A lot of the dogs had diseases because they did not receive their shots, heartworm treatments, etc. We found out the dog we chose from petfinder.com had heartworms. We decided to take her home anyway. She just finished her heartworm treatment and is doing great.

Yes, Yes, they do need these shots or they will get fatal diseases.
Answer:

If NOTHING else, rabbies & distemper.... and the full round of puppie vaccines. I've heard too many horror stories to not get those!

This is what I do as well...whatever he recommends for our pets, we do.
Answer:

If you want your dog to live a long, healthy life, it's a good idea to get all of the vaccinations that the vet recommends. I'm not 100% sure about this, but if a dog gets sick with certain viruses, those viruses can be transmitted to humans. So getting the dog vaccinated helps keep the owners healthy too.
