Is AAA worth the fee?

Ask:
Is AAA worth the membership fee? We will be going on a LONG vacation in our vehicle (Which is new, so will hopefully not have a great deal of mechanical problems....). Does anyone have AAA and if so, is it worth the fee? Do you get good discounts anywhere? TIA!
Answer:

We've had it for over 10 years. I do a lot of traveling with the kids in the car and I like to know that I have it and can use it, should anything happen no matter where I am. I actually forget most of the time about any discounts. We usually use points for hotel rooms and stuff like that, so it's just not on the radar screen for me. I am guessing it just depends on where you go, where you stay - what is a typical discount? 10%? Maybe just run the numbers and see if it's worth it to you.

I love AAA. You can also get decent car insurance as well as home owners from them too. We pay $80 a yr (gold with 100 mile tow vs 3 with reg membership). Includes lock out tows and tire change (gotta love that!)

Ou car and house was the cheapest through them BUT the local agent didnt bind it (finalize it) and we almost lost our house BUT the nice person from the 800 # bound it 3 days before it was to expire. Then calimari posted about AIG and they were cheaper so we went with them.
Answer:

We do and I think it is definently worth it. I had to call them for to jump start my car this winter. There was snow and ice on the ground and they were at our house within 30 minutes. We also had a flat on vacation and they came right out and had us back on the road with in an hour.

Most auto insurance companies offer the roadside assistance but report every time you use it. The number of times you use the service is taken into consideration for insurance rates.
Answer:

I had it for awhile when I was single and didn't find it cost effective. I did use it once for a tow, but that was once in 10 years. I had it mostly for my parents peace of mind. If you have a newer car, I don't see the need for it. We travel 20,000 a year or more in our cars, too.

Now that our cars are getting older, I am thinking of getting it for our upcoming trip. I also am looking into hotel costs and if I had a AAA discount, I would save $30 alone on the hotel and the cost of AAA is $50 for what we want. So, it might be cost effective now.
Answer:

I think its worth for peace of mind especially if your taking a long road trip.
Answer:

I think it is definitely worth it. DH is in the car all day and I am usually out and about with Riley. It is a great feeling to know that if the car dies, I run out of gas, get a flat, lock my keys inside, etc.. that help is only a phone call away. The only time I think to ask for a discount at hotels is if we are traveling by car and stop somewhere on the road overnight. Usually places like Holiday Inn, Hampton Inn, Jameson Inn (places you find right off the interstate) will ask you if you have AAA upfront. I think its usually a 10% discount. I've gotten the discount before when I didn't even have the card with me.

Anyway, I would definitely get a membership just for your safetys sake will traveling. If your car dies do you want to walk who knows how many miles for help or do you want to make one call to AAA and have help come to you?
Answer:

We drive alot of miles so it is worth it to me just for the peace of mind!!! Also, alot of hotels and such have AAA discounts. We got a huge discount at Worlds of Fun one year.
Answer:

We have not had it in the past - but I can certainly tell you that it would have been a great peace of mind this winter with all the car troubles we had. I have been meaning to get us signed up for it ~ just haven't gotten around to it.

For us it will be worth it - if for nothing else the tow cost if one of the vehicles breaks down. We are so far out in the middle of nowhere that the tow alone would be more then the annual cost.
Answer:

I think it's worth it. It's really not that much. My husband has not ever used it, but I seem to have a lot of battery problems and also have a nasty habit of locking my keys in the car... The peace of mind makes it worth every cent. I am not the kind of girl who would do well changing a tire on the side of the freeway.

We also have auto and renters insurance through AAA.
