anyone stop driving due to gas prices???

Ask:
Well, not stop driving all together, but drive less?

I put 1/2 a tank of gas in my SUV this morning and it was 25.01!

I try to call pool to do errands with my Mom and my kids take the bus to school, so we don't use up gas there. We are planning to take a trip to Florida, from Illinois, this fall and are second guessing it because of gas prices. My Inlaws live 2 hours away and are always saying we don't visit enough, but it's so expensive to drive there! My DS1 goes to his Dad's every 3 weeks and it's 2 hours in the other direction, but we have to pick him up from there. That's $50 in gas for that alone every 3 weeks!

I just wonder if anyone else feels they need to park their car and leave it there until the gas prices drop?
Answer:

Dh is in sales and is in his car most of the week. On a busy week, he might fill up his car three times! I definitely try and hit as many errands as I can in one trip so I am not constantly going back in and out. Luckily we live in an area where I can hit just about everything I need in within about a five mile radius.
Answer:

3boysmommy, We too are driving to Fl from Ohio though. I am keeping the mind set that the drive w/gas is still cheaper than air fare for 4 people.

Dh starts a longer commute to and from work starting in June. We will probaly not be doing a lot of driving on the weekends our back yard is looking better and better everyday.
Answer:

If an errand is within walking distance then I walk (I can walk to the library, the park, the bank, CVS, and Goodwill) I do as much of my shopping at places like Walmart and SuperTarget so I'm not driving all over.
Answer:

My dh drives an hour and a half away --one way--everyday, he switches off with a guy and then about 15 miles away they switch off between 3 people but yesterday I put 3/4 tank in my suburban and it was $70.00 I was so sick! I am going to try my best to not go anywhere for a few days--the closet grocery store to us is 30 miles! i hate it! I want to go on vacation but now with the gas prices I don't know.
Answer:

I have no choice I work everyday, its a small drive to drop off son to school and it takes me about 15 min or so to get to work. I do drive a bit slower on the freeway (stay under 60) and I coast alot, meaning I dont keep my foot constantly on the gas, your car will coast for some time.

I think the gas companies are taking advantage and probably all using that "extra" money for new cars, homes, whatever. Its price gouging if you ask me.
Answer:

Nope although I do get aggrivated when I fill up. I drive 40 miles (one way) to work everyday so its just an expense we have to have.
Answer:

Yes!

We use to do 3 trips a year to visit the in-laws (6 hours away) and now we only go once a year and we stay for a week.

Dh also takes the train to work now. It's way cheaper for him to take the train then to pay for gas.
Answer:

I filled up our minivan last week and it cost me $52!!! I was floored! I don't do a lot of driving right now, but starting in July, I will be going to school 30 miles from my house. Classes will be 4 days a week, and going to 5 days a week starting this fall. I'm thinking of getting a 150cc TNG scooter, which gets 75-80 mpg, but DH is kind of against it, b/c he is worried about the safety. He is starting to get used to the idea, b/c he sees the price of gas and knowing that it will be $4 by August and up to $5 if there is a bad enough hurricane season.

Other than that, we've been doing a lot of biking for closer trips, to the grocery and to pick up DS from school on nice days.

Edited to add: I'm looking to see if there is any sort of carpooling or buses that make the trip to my school. It will take longer to get there, but it might be necessary.
Answer:

With six kids, it is my SANITY to get out of the house...and while I totally hate these gas prices, I will not quit going because of them! It would cost us more to have me in an institution and dh and the kids having to come visit me!! (Not to mention paying someone to do all the things I do!!)
