My niece has finally gotten concrete answers about her dd

Ask:
My neice has a dd who has had "issues" that never seemed to get fully diagnosed. well after alot more tests here is what they are telling her. she is feeling very overwhelmed

Pervaisive Developmental Disorder Not otherwise Specified(PDD NOS)- IN the medical community this is seen as a step before Autism. As far as the Autism community is concerned it is an Autistic Spectrum Disorder(ASD). she will be reevaluated when the next school year starts as the educational system is more loose with the Autism spectrum than the medical community so she will hopefully get tons of help from our district.

ADHD combined- Its not suprise that this is one of their diagnosis concidering that I also have ADHD and it can be an inherited behavioral disorder. The ADHD combined means that she has a very severe form of ADHD. She will be on a medication for that.

Disruptive Behavior Disorder- My research of this shows that this is some what of a pediatric form of bipolar. Because of my Depression and the history in my fathers family as well as in her father's family, this diagnosis is also of no suprise. We do have to watch out because this could lead to actual bipolar when she gets older.

I already thought my neice had been diagnosed with ASD and ADHD, but it was all confusing b/c they would say yes then no.

I have already been trying to explain all this to my kids b/c they don't "understand" why their cousin acts weird sometimes and is hard to play with. anyone have recommendation for good books on explaning to kids and what they can do to understand when playing together.

sorry long, thanks

Answer:

My ds was diagnosed PDD-NOS in 2004 at the age of 3. He has received special services and therapies through our school district and he has greatly improved. He is very intelligent, but quirky and is mainstreamed in a full day kindergarten this year. We are very proud of him and his accomplishments. Should you need to talk or just vent, feel free to pm me!
