Need math help!!!!

This is a question on my ds's homework.

What is the rule for this pattern? (Hint: use two operations.)

9, 11, 15, 23, 39, 7


This has me totally stumped, so if anyone could help, it would be great!! TIA

9 &11 =2
11&15=4
12&23=8
23&39=16
39&7=32

It is the number multipled by 2 so the next number is 64

7&71=64

I think it would be the first number x2, then that answer -7. so....
9x2=18, 18-7=11
11x2=22, 22-7=15
15x2=30, 30-7=23, etc.

Not sure about the rest of the replies, but it says to use two operations, hence the x2 and the -7. HTH!
