Update on our life!

Ask:
For those of you interested, here's what is going on with us. . .

Today was my last personal day of the school year. I was shocked that my new school allows teachers to take personal days this late, because my former school had so many restrictions on when they could be taken. The reason I took the day off was that I spent Mother's Day weekend with my mom - she lives about 4 hours away, so I drove home this morning.

I have 4 more days until the last day of school. The students' last day is Friday, but the teachers go back next Monday. I'll have four days off, then dh and I are heading to NE Iowa for a big family gathering. It should be a great time. We are looking forward to RELAXING!

Then, when we return, Summer School starts. I have taught Summer School in the past, but this school uses a different program. It lasts for 24 days (I will only teach 19 of those days) - and the days are longer than the normal school day. I will have approximately 30 kids with no aides, and this program doesn't allow teachers to give a recess. I know, I know, I don't know how I'm going to keep my sanity. The program is completely hands-on, fun "junk" - not the remedial work that the students really need. Truth be told, it is a glorified summer camp. AND, get this - if the students come every day, they get $100 at the end of the month. (The money is not based on behavior or work habits - just being a warm body in the room.) In my opinion, it is ridiculous to teach kids that if they show up at school, they'll get paid. Not only that, we are providing free day care (and breakfast and lunch) for an entire month. But teachers do get paid pretty well on this program.

One week in June, in the middle of Summer School, 5 of us teachers are joining our principal at a week-long conference. I'll make a $100 per day stipend for being there!!

Then, after that, I'll do one more week of Summer School. That'll be the end of June. I'll also do my vet job during the week and McDonald's on the weekends. In July, I hope to pick up more hours at McDonald's. My goal is to bring home $5000 this summer. It is do-able if I really work hard.

Also in July - we are planning on making an appointment to see the doctor to find out what our next step is for our infertility.

So things will be very busy for us this summer. But we know that if we keep us this pace now, the debt will get paid faster and faster. Did you notice that our debt payoff date has moved up one month already??!!
Answer:

It sounds like you will definitely have a very busy summer. Wow. I am so glad that you are knocking down your debt so fast, great job.

I can't believe they pay kids! I have never ever heard of that. Weird.
Answer:

First of all, I noticed your earlier debt pay off previously. You should be very proud of yourself and your dh. You deserve a pat on the back. I hope you get to enjoy some of your summer~~you definately deserve some "down" time.
Answer:

Sounds like things are looking up money wise. Its amazing what can happen when you put your mind to it.

Has it been determined that the two of you have an infertility problem? Or is your first appointment?
Answer:

That is the oddest summer school I ever heard off!!! Heck, I would tell my kids to pretend they needed help!!! Sounds like you have a plan and it is working!! I am so proud of you!!!

This would be our first appointment. We've been trying for a full year now, which is what most doctors expect you to do before making this first appointment. We've been using an ovulation monitor for the last 5 months. What is strange that it only indicated a Peak Fertility Day (day before ovulation) for 2 of those 5 months. Hopefully the doctor can give us some insight on that. We were originally going to make that doctor appointment for June, but that just can't happen. I don't even have one free day that month!
Answer:

Yayy! That sounds great about a month earlier pay off....it'll just keep getting earlier too!

Thanks so much for the update. So often things are going on with posters and then we never ever hear an update...it's nice to be able to keep up!!
Answer:

Good luck to you. Sure sounds like you're on the right track!

Martha, go to bed!
