When did you ditch the high chair?

Ask:
My ds is 21 months and I am putting it away today. He has started rocking back and forth in it and I am afraid he is going to tip it over, and he has been standing in it (wriggling out of the straps) and laughing hysterically when he sees the look of horror on my face as I run towards him. This child is going to do me in, I swear. So out with the high chair and in with the booster seat. We used a cooshy booster with my oldest and I believe we started it after his second birthday. There are no straps and it is made out of this foamy stuff (same as the bumbo seat) so it sticks to the seat of the chair without sliding. I just think straps are pointless with this kid. He will find a way out of them so why bother.

He is growing up so fast....
Answer:

We have the booster seat kind that attach to regular chairs. Mostly my son (4) and my grandson (almost 3) do not use them anymore, but we keep them handy for those squirmy days when they just won't sit nice at the table. I like to keep them straped in as long as possible
Answer:

Awww. They do grow up fast...

I was going to say two years, but my almost 1 yr old is doing the same thing with the rocking...drives me crazy. I don't think she is heavy enough to tip it over, but it is scary. I used to be able to put her in there when I would do the dishes and other things in the kitchen....not anymore...it is for eating only.
Answer:

I bpought one of those booster type highchairs that strap to a regular chair, bot does have straps for around the waist and through the legs, when my ds was a toddler and it's what I have always used with dd. She too is a little Hoodini (sp?) And she can't wriggle out.
Answer:

My son has not been in his high chair for a couple of months now. He is 23 months.
He just sits in the chair at the table like any other person. I-know, doesn't sound safe, but he would otherwise try and stand on a booster seat and/or just knock a booster seat to the ground.

I am on the look-out for a cheap small kids table and chair to keep in the dinning room near our big table for meal times.
Answer:

If it doesnt feel safe ditch it. MIne only used a high chair for about six months. Now I use the boster with the tray, She likes it and I know she is safe.
Answer:

I just got rid of my high chair too and my dd is only 14 months. I hate high chairs and ditch them as soon as possible. With the two oldest, I had a had a stand alone booster-type chair that would push up to the table. With my baby, I bought a booster chair that attaches to the table and is suspended. I really like it so far. Of course, my little monkey wants to use a chair to climb onto the table and then put herself in the chair.
Answer:

I'm never going to get a high chair - they take up way too much space and I would never have room for it. We are going to get a seat that straps to a kitchen chair with a tray instead.
Answer:

We never used one. We got custody of DD when she was shy of her 2nd b-day (about 22 months.) But even before then, when we were visiting her and had her on weekends, etc, we never used one.
Answer:

I don't remember how long I used a high chair with my first, but we never even used one with my second - just went straight to the booster type seat that attaches to the chair. They take up much less space and are much less expensive.
