Would you get a 2nd opinion?

Ask:
They read my MRI today for my neck. This is stemming from my accident back in March where the man ran the red light and Tboned me. So I got to see it with the Dr. In the exact spot where it is giving me problems there is a big blob of something. She says it is calcium from the accident, from the whiplash. Nothing to really worry about. She says I don't need surgery, but she can't see all the little things. Some people that die from accidents like mine you can't see their injuries in MRI's were her exact words. So she is sending me to the massage therapist tomorrow. Ummm wouldn't you want to find out if there is anything really wrong in there before you have some go cranking on my neck and whack something out even more?
Answer:

I would say that it never hurt anyone to have a second opinion.
Answer:

Definitely get a second opinion!
Answer:

A massage sounds a little to holistic of a treatment for a hurt neck and it will not be covered by insurance. I would ask to see a physical therapist...they know how to deal with injuries...they can combine a thereapy routine with special massage for your issue.

Answer:

absolutely a second opinion! My mom made the mistake of following her doctor's orders and saught massage after she fell and almost broke her neck on gym equipment, and it turned out that she had a slipped disc. Massage was making the problem worse.
Answer:

I would get a second opinion...just to be sure.

Make sure they are licensed and make sure they explain what they are doing
to you and why and if something hurts, make sure you tell them!
We have alot of patients that are afraid to say something (and of course
when they get up the nerve, they tell ME, the office manager! lol)

PT's do a combined therapy/massage treatment for most conditions.
Find out your diagnosis and I'll see what I can dig up around the office.
They'll most likely have you doing exercises and stretches at home too.
